Mainers, nuts trees?

Anyone from Maine have nut trees? I live up in Northern Maine so I am not sure if its even possible here, but we'd like to plant some trees in the spring.

Hazelnuts work well there, though you're best to find some in the wild to transplant since your basic filbert tree's no good. We used to collect beech nuts along Route 11 nead Hedgehog Mountain, so I know those grow as well.

Check out St. Lawrence Nurseries. http://www.sln.potsdam.ny.us/ They are located in Zone 3 and all of their stock is grown right there.

The Fedco Tree catalog is out. It's full of things that will do well in northern Maine. I need to look at nut trees soon too.

I love them, got 23 friut trees from them this year, only lost 1, Now I'll try some nut trees from them.

We live in zone 3 in upstate New York. We have always gotten our trees from St. Lawrence Nursuries. I highly recommend these guys. They grow their trees in a cold northern climate so thet dont need to adapt to cold climates.
They have these filbert/hazelnut trees weve planted a lot of.
And black walnuts. If you want to be a little crazy you can get a burr oak. They have these gigantic edible acorns that have little tannin, so they are palitable.

We have a couple 'Butternut' trees we bought from Miller Nurseries and planted about fifteen years ago, lovely trees but so far very few nuts (4-5 starting last year)

Please plant hazelnuts/filberts- my all time favorites when fresh- and I hope you enjoy them. Sure wish I could grow them in Alabama (I'm gonna try but not very optimistic).

I have hazelnut/filberts but mine are a bush-type thing. I live in Michigan. I didn't know hazelnuts grow as trees.
