Tractor-hay equipment questions

Let me say right up front that I"m embarrased to ask this question. I grew up on a farm, moved away for 30 years, moved back, and am continuously astonished at my ignorance.

I have a Kubota 3830, 38 hp tractor. I would like to take care of about 10 acres of hay. Question: is my tractor big enough to operate a mower, rake and square baler?

What should I expect to have to pay for the equipment?

I appreciate any help...

you should be able to run a mower and rake with no problem, the baler depands on hp at pto, and the weight of the tractor and ability to withstand the torque of the baler, I've seen people bale with 8n but its level ground slow and you need to be careful not to run a big slug in it, prices vary by area, where are you/ In my area balers run from 250 to 1500, rakes 250 to 1000, mower conditioners 750=1500 or a sickle bar around 250, this is used stuff and usually needs some repairs of some type, and prices have been rising here, good luck

Check with your local Kubota Dealer for the answers you seek. Terrain plays an important part in the size tractor you will need to get the job done. All the fancy implements in the world will not make up for an under-powered tractor.

dad had a farmall Super M. It was 45 HP I think. It ran the square baler easily. I think your 38 HP kabota will handle the equipment you need.

I have here in NC some good haying equipment stored in the dry that is surplus to me due to the equipment being on the small side for my operation. If you are interested PM me.

I ran a 7 foot sickle mower, a rake and a JD 14T square baler behind my Kubota L2350 ( 25 HP ).

I didn't have any problems with power at all, you will be fine with one of the older square balers that don't use as much hp as the newer high capacity ones.

Yor are all set

You have more than enough power with that modern four wheel drive. I manage to do it with a TO 20 Ferguson at 26 hp but its a pain. You have all the modern hydralics that I don't.

DH did about 12 acres of hay for several years with an 8N. If not mistaken, it was 35 hp. Mower, rake, square baler all ran fine with it. It was all on level acreage.
