Anyone on Social Security keep getting less?
Every time we get a raise, like 3.3 percent in january, the Medicare raises, the supplemental insurance raises, and the part D raises. and, each year, i come out with less and less. and dont forget farm insurance, car insurance--since you're making more, they need more. so electricity goes up, groceries goes up--after all YOU GOT A RAISE!! i'm drawing less that i was7 years ago!

I'm not on SS but have relatives that are and they are experiencing the same thing. Actually some are reaching the point of outliving their money, a scary situation. Obviously these are thoughts on most people's minds that SS isn't and never was meant to be the support all of your retirement.

I am not sure if has or not as just NOW I go on Medicare in 3 days. So with the 90 bucks taken out for Medicare, and Supplement Insurance is only $85 dollars a month with No Co Pay and 100% coverage what Medicare don't pay, And drug coverage at 25 a month.
That sure beats the $312 I was Paying while I have insurance through the Cobra law, and was on group insurance.....
AND OR the $450 I would have paid a month for the last 6 months after Cobra ran out~! I did not pick that up as 450 for just 6 months and would not even Cover my Arthritis~!
So this is much better now then what I been going through the last 2 years~!
And the Supplement insurance IF I wanted to do a Co Pay stuff 5 dollars here 10 dollars there. Would cost me NOTHING per month to have that, BUT I elected to do the $85 a month and have No Co Pay~!!
And if things do get tight I can also go into that program~!

Our supplemental is 130 each a month--drug ins. is 28--and going up first of the year.my husband was hurt on the job--retirement came sooner than expected--little things you dont plan on when you're 30 years old.the drug benifits stink too-- can get my meds now for 4. from walmarts, DH dont take any--so thats 56 for nothing, but we signed up on the "scare tactics". now, with his brain cancer and alz. dont dare drop it--oh, well life on a farm is never easy.

I hate to be the nasty voice of logic here BUT how much are you getting a month versus what you put in a month...My last statement said I was eligible for 2100 a month...WHERE did that money come from??I never paid anywhere near that amount in per month. This money all went into the General Fund not interest bearing accounts,so where does this monthly payment come from??SS now takes 3.2 people to pay for every person collecting.Something very wrong here...SAVE money for your retirement,DON'T depend on Socialist Insecurity...

As much as I don't want to see people who depend on Social Security out in the cold, I also think it needs to be phased out slowly somehow.
I don't know what the alternative would be, as I don't know that faith based groups can be trusted to care for the sick and the old. In a perfect world, it's possible but we all know we are living on Earth, and we have all seen whatit's like here.

Well it wasn't a problem until last year, then it was looking bad.Did some shopping around on Supplemental,it was looking good until this year. Now have to go shopping again.
If it wasn't for my Pension I would be hurting.I really don't know what my wife will do if something happens to me.Because she won't get any of my Pension. But thats why I get so much now.

Do me a favor and don't think about "phasing out" SS especially if there is no absolute replacement plan that includes my paid in money.
What faith based group would people that don't belong to a faith based group turn to?

Well lets see I worked till I was 53 so working a little over 30 years and now I am getting just Over 1,000 a month on SS Dis., Plus another 615 from a long term disability insurance policy of which I took out at work for an extra 75 cents a week Boy is THAT paying off now. and will for the next 12 years. So if you add that up I am getting just about WHAT I was Clearing (taking home)when working and now NOT even paying Taxes. So even without that LT Dis policy I am still gettin a grand a month.

Thats what my hubby thought too, when he took out "long term disability" while he was working.--and-when he was disabled, it started paying--minus the amount WC paid. then, when WC stopped paying, it did too.seems it wasnt EXACTLY what the told the long haul drivers it was. but surely, a trucking company wouldnt lie, now, would they?

I'personally think the reason SS is going broke is because theres too many on it that werent expected to draw it when it was set up. Lets see, our neighbor, thats 30 now, has been drawing it since he was 19--because he's a drug addict, and cant hold a job. another neighbot, 49 drawing because of non-limiting asthma, another cause she has something at 3 years old that affected her vision (she sees good with glasses)--all you need is a good lawyer to get you on the rolls. one senator wants to fix it where the illegal immigrants can collect--so, no--its not the truly disabled and old folks breaking the system--actually, its the lawyers--

amen to that, ceresone! When did we start paying for people who never worked in the counrty? I don't understand how the goverment can just take from our SS anytime it has a shortfall somewhere else! WRONG in so many ways!!

SS is in bad shape because when there were 16 people paying in for everyone 1 drawing, the government spent our money. Now they cry the blues that there are only 3 for 1. The government continues to spend our money. Give me all the money my employer & I paid in right now and I will call it even. Fix the healthcare system so I can afford to pay my own insurance in old age also.

if they would eliminate people like my aunt who sat on her butt for all her life and now draws ssi becuase she has "nerve problems" when really all she needed was a job. Shes never paid in one cent but yet draws a check and gets full med coverage. She qualifies for medicaid and has way better health coverage than say my dad who worked his tail off paying taxs since he was fifteen stuck on medicare. Unless your a minor with a disability you shouldnt be paid anything if youve never paid anything in.
If you dont have a job at Wal Mart they dont make walmart pay you and give you insurance and ssi should be the same. No pay in no pay out period.

I sure hope it is not phased out after I have spent my whole life paying into it! Now if they want to give me my money back then phase it out I can live with that.

Well,if you don't believe in SS then now is the time to take control of your finances and make sure you and yours will have enough to live on in their old age....and that can be a long time with people living longer and longer these days. Then you won't leave your wife/husband with a pittance of SS living in a nursing home 'cause they can't afford to live on their own. How would you enjoy turning your check over and getting a measly $30 of it a month for your spending money? I don't see how they can just quit having SS for all those who have had it TAKEN all their working years; especially lower income workers who can't afford fancy savings programs....put $2000 in an IRA--how? Not pay the mortgage? Starve the kids? Easy for the richies to tell everyone what to do. My DH has been on disability for years...legitimately..,but I've always had to work fulltime to pay the bills.....and believe me,he worked fulltime and more all his working years starting at 12 with a paper route. If he could work he would. When he became disabled we had four kids at home and it took over two years to get his SS...and my dad worked for SS!!!!!!! Finally our state representative intervened for us along with a lawyer who got his generous cut of my familys' money. That is why all our resources are now going to paying off our mortgage(less than three years), and preparing for a fixed income. Also setting up revocable trust so what we do have won't be eaten away by the government. DEE who says flame me if you want
