so who has totally worthless (to the homestead) pets?
I'm guilty of the following:

Buster (on the left) and Freddy (on the right). Yappy, full of attitude, both need specially-formulated (read: expensive) food for their 'sensitive' stomachs...
Both are Pomeranians. Buster is a Pomzilla, so-called by me because he should have topped out at, oh, 4 to 8 lbs or so. Buster tips the scales at 20. Big un-godly thing who always has to be all up in everyone's business. Freddy, a man-diva in every sense of the word. Cries pitifully if he isn't given due attention by anyone that he's met before who enters our house. Attitude of a junkyard dog to anyone he hasn't met that enters our house. Will sit under the table & growl under his breath at strangers, which is, of course, highly embarrassing. Freaks out and barks maniacally at any strange sounds inside or outside, or any shadows.
And then there's Max. Oh, Max. I got him as a kitten to be a mouser outside. After all, his mom & dad were both barn cats and born mousers. It didn't take in this guy. Hates the outdoors, so is 99% inside kitty. He will venture outdoors on occasion, but he won't leave the area right around the house that we keep mowed short, and he refuses to stay outside unless a human family member is outside with him. Is terrified of birds & squirrels, and, the one that I find to be most amusing...Mice. Every fall we have a rise in the number of mice entering the house, and Max literally runs and jumps onto the highest possible perch that he can locate if he sees a mouse. And has a wide-eyed, terrified look on his face until he can't see it any longer. His parents would be soooo proud...
There they are, my three worthless animals that bring absolutely nothing to the table. (Except undying love for their masters, which is why they get to hang around, and why our house won't be the same if and when they go away for whatever reason.)

I don't know how to post photo's either, but that would also mean I would have to take one of our (hubbies) useless dog. The other day, my hubby was out working in the yard, heard something in the woods. My cat and his German Shepard mix were with him. The dog ran into the house, the cat went after the sound.

2 pot-bellied pigs as pets
1 goat who's the best dog I've ever had
about 10 chickens that don't lay and I can't kill
2 Rouen males with broken wings
a zillion cats who are friends with mice
5 dogs: 3 are chicken killers who can't be let loose when the chickens are out and 2 who like to eat the eggs right out of the coop
Can anyone top this?

I have three completely useless goats. Manure factories that hog all the dairy goats food. I also have a useless pug mix dog that is worse then useless. My cats I count as good for the homestead, they do keep down the mice population.
He's one of my daughters pets:

Hmm
One pug - my son's lap warmer
One rescue Giant Schnauzer who is not allowed to run because he's undergoing heartworm treatment
One rescue Giant Schnuazer who is epileptic and special needs diet (but she does herd ocassionally)
One special needs TN Walker Gelding read pasture ornament, general snuggler and feed inhaler - sometimes backyard ride and will skid logs sometimes
One very lazy fat TN Walker/Stndrdbred mare who is my leisure ride but sometimes is used to go out and search the pasture fence lines - and search patrol for when above Giant Schnauzers jump yard fence
hmmm a few pet wethers but they are the farm 'greeters' and Amos is a famous boy so I guess he's not too useless...he makes a good kid (of both 4 and 2 legged kind) and his buddy Andy is the ultimate fence cleaner so not too bad!
4 Pet cull toms - well, I think I'm only gonna keep 2 - good bug cleaners though...so not absolutely useless!
Glad to know it's not just me :-)

Me! Me! Me! DH and I are hopeless greyhound rescue addicts. We usually have about two in our home that await forever homes and 7 wonderful pups that are permanent residents.
Here is a pic from last year.....

2 kids. Even my Guinea Pigs do more work then those two. At least they are cute!
No really, I am teaching them to do chores. In the beginning I had to tell ds9 that I wasn't gonna feed his lazy bum but now he gets it.
And Greyhounds are not useless, they are a constant reminder of the beauty of God's creation.

I use to tie dead domestic rabbits around my dogs neck that they killed until they rotted off and that usually stoped them from killing again. I say usually since one time it didn't work.

May get dogs, and in theory they will keep squirrels etc off my nuts fruit and veg. But no doubt they will sleep on our beds at night so not much protectin at night.

pets
I suppose most people would think my 2 affenpinscher terriers are worthless to the homestead, but I live very secluded and am also going blind and can't drive, so they are my constant companions and great friends. They never gossip about me, always are glad to see me, never are mad at me and are so loving. They were the most expensive animals we've bought, except for our Highland bull, but they are worth every penny!

Aww now come on! If they keep the homestead owner/operator happy and sane, they're worth their weight in GOLD!
All your pets are so cute and I LOVE those greyhounds!!

We have aquired 4 pets. All were totally useless when we got them.
But, Whiskers the cat learned to hunt mice, and Einstein the dog discovered how much FUN it was to chase the opossums and rabbits and the other varmints. The chickens and the garden appreciated his protection.
The other 2 cats are young, and have not learned to do anything, YET! Give them time! My son's kitten is a FIEND for grasshoppers! I expect that Monkey D. Lufy will learn to hunt mice too, in time!
