Check out the archives of the Mother Earth News. https://www.motherearthnews.com/article-archive/1970 The whole thing was in the very early issues. I can still remember the excitement I felt reading that for the first time!

Love that book, though. It's great!

Try Issue #2 of MENS. I believe it is also available in print form from Storey Publishing. The first time I read it it was like a light came on just how I'd always wanted to live and here was someone else ahead of me! I'm old enough that I read it in the original #2 Issue (which I still have somewhere).

I bought it several years ago from Storey. It is the first book of its kind I ever bought but it certainly wasn't the last.

I've got that book. There's some fairly decent information, a lot of it outdated. One HUGE problem I had with it: It seemed like it was written by a couple that had quite a bit of money to begin with. Well, pretty much the greater reader base of Mother Earth News. Wealthy people who can move to the country and do everything they need/want to do and then write a book telling everybody how great and easy it is. You just have to want it! Nice. Listen, write a book telling me how to do it with 3 kids at home, child support and an ill wife who's only earning half pay. Let's see some books for real people for a change.

That book gave me the idea that I could do this, too

"Let's see some books for real people for a change." I must say I agree with you Jarod! So many of these books were written for a time gone past. But the reality is that it's here again!

We, as a society, are once again waking up to going "back to the land" and we can only hope our books or internet, or whatever, will realize that WE are once again looking to nature and the land and our natural resources as the way to a "proper" future for us all.

Something new you might want to look into:

Back to Nature

I hope it helps. And if not, well, keep the faith! We need more of us out there looking for the "right" way to live!

gotta love those hills.....

Jared,

Check out the Complete Tightwad Gazette from the public library. Lots of excellent ideas on saving money.

I checked out this link today, as the book is on my Christmas wish list. The download is no longer free, but it is only 8 dollars. The drawback for me is that I cannot print it out and mark it up for much less than that, so I will be purchasing the hard copy. Can't wait to get my hands on it, tho. I did notice tho, that at the Mother Earth News site, nearly the whole book is available in the archives. I started my reading right there. Hope this helps.
