Water Well

I am thinking about putting down my own water well. I will be drilling down to
app. 65 feet through a sandy clay, clay and then about 1/2 way down there
will be a quick sand. I have put wells down in this area before but at 69 years
old I am seeking the easy way posiable. I am Open to any and all sugestions.

I have put down several-------What I do is get a farm pump(about 100gpm) and some water on site---------I use 3" pvc in 10ft sections with a male and female threaded ends glued onto each piece except for the first piece that will go into the dirt---It will have a male threaded end on one end then-----I take a saw and cut several teeth either on the other end or use a couplin and cut teeth on it---then put it on the pipe end. I then get a 3" T and put threaded female end on one end then a threaded end cap on the other end with a hose adapter screwed into the middle section to fit the discharge hose on the farm pump. What I do is using the first 10ft piece with the teeth----I screw the T onto the other end---hook the discharge hose to the T and the pump(hose will have to be 15ft to 20ft long)--------If by myself--I crank the pump---quickly stand the pipe STRAIGHT up-----then wash this pipe down 10ft--cut off pump----unhook hose from the pump not T unless you have a TALL ladder---unscrew T--screw T onto next pipe---screw this onto pipe in the dirt------recconnect pipe-----crank pump-----keep repeating till you get into a stream of water-------then I use 2" pvc with pvc screen to drop into pipe------take end cap off T--ease screen with a section of pipe glued to it --down into well---------DON'T DROP IT---I use a 2 squeeze clamps to hold it-----One as a Backup-----Glue another section of 2"-----let dry for a few-------Lower it into well------repeat till you hit the bottom--Then pull 2" up a few inches---Saw off where it will be a few inches below the top of the T-----slide on a 2" end cap(DON"T FORGET THIS)---Drop it into 3"-----screw end cap back onto T-----Crank up pump---the water pressure will push the 3" back to(might have to wiggle it a little back and forth) HOLD PIPE firmly---Might decide to take off like a rocket and break your T fittings or pump----Clamp 3" and just reverse how you washed it down---10ft at a time. When you get the 3" out--It will cave in around the 2" in a little while-----U got your well down. It is not all that hard---I did a 50ft well once the 3" was ready in 2 hours by myself. My son help me on another well--54ft deep----We had it down and pumping water in 1 hour. I hit some pebble rocks on the one I did by myself--which slowed me down some. Of Course having a Helper is NICE!! Have Fun. Randy

Any questions---Just ask.

Edited to add-----------If the 3" hits Hard Clay----just work it back and forth so the Teeth you sawed into the end will help cut through the clay. I also have taken a torch and heated the teeth a little to angle them a little to get a better cut in clay.

Also--I am sure you could drop down in the size of the well pipes(1 1/4 etc)and it would be easier, but I needed all the water I could get in one well. One well will produce 41gpm with 10ft of 2" screen---------My other well will produce 28gpm with a 6ft screen. Tested by hooking the gas pump to the wells.

I found this page to be quite interesting:
http://www.fdungan.com/well.htm

I've seen kits that include the drive spikes, pipe and mallet to drive your own well. It is not the least intensive way to get your well done, but it is probably the cheapest.

Teeny hijack to say howzit from one afrikaner to another

Okay, hijack off.

Bricned, do you have any kind of "services barter group" in your area? We have that here, found in Yahoo groups, and for services only, not items. Maybe you could someone to help you out with the well that way. Other than that, I'd say check out your local library - ours has quite a number of books on well drilling. May give you some pointers/refresh what you already know.
