Question T111 paint or stain?

We have built a new shed out of T111 and would like as little upkeep as possible,so which is better paint or stain? Thanks!

I useally will lay T111 on plastic on the ground and either paint or stain it on both sides with an airless sprayer. I think oil base paint will protect longer but I like semitransparent stains myself. I have build houses on the coast of NC for many years and found out that T111 is good for about 10 years before it starts to rot. Good luck on your project.

I stained mine the first time. I used so much stain it was insane, the stuff is like a sponge. From now on it's paint with a sprayer.

Regardless of which finish you use, make sure you caulk any holes where you've removed misplaced nails. Moisture getting into the holes will make it rot rather quickly.

It depends on the type of T1-11 you have. If it's made from fiberboard or OSB, then prime and paint it. If it's made from plywood, then you can chose to either stain or paint it.

I've tried both and don't see any difference as how long it lasts. I used stain when I could stain before it was hung. But, painted when it was hung first because paint is less messy at that point. We have built four sheds over the years with T1-11 and they have held up wonderfully. Only re-stained one just for looks.

only benifit to staining is that it does not peel off over time. no need to scrape and prep for the next time it needs redone.
