Oh, NO! SNOW???
No, no, NO!
I know I should not look at the newspaper. It just makes me upset.
Especially when Chicago's favorite meteorologist, Tom Skilling, informs me that a couple days after the lovely 80 degree temps we're going to enjoy this week, we can expect SNOW SHOWERS on Thursday.
Tom says, "If snow does occur here on Thursday, it will be the earliest onset of snow in Chicago since Oct. 7, 2000 and the second earliest in 71 years."
Thanks a lot, Skilling.

I don't remember any snow early that year. That was a few weeks after our son was born. I do remember that Halloween was very nice that year, being in the high 60s or 70s.
It's much too early for snow.

It has snowed as early as Halloween and as late as Easter here. But we get most of our snow in January and February. It usually melts in a few days.

I remeber that date, because it snowed shortly thereafter in Oklahoma for the first time. I thought I had moved to a winter wonderland

We're going to drop to the low 20's Monday night. We've already saw some snow a couple of weeks ago. I think we are in for a bad winter. Better put my emergency kit back in the car.

Yep it's a pretty interesting forecast
from the nws:
Quote:
Unusually strong storm system expected to develop mid week...
An unusually strong storm system for mid October is expected to form across the upper Midwest and Great Lakes on Wednesday. Enough consistency and agreement between several long term computer model forecast solutions is causing an increase in confidence of this scenario.
A low pressure system is expected to develop across the mid-Mississippi Valley region Tuesday night and strengthen rapidly as it moves northeast into Wisconsin and the western Great Lakes region on Wednesday. A surge of unseasonably cold Canadian air will sweep southward across the northern plains at the same time... contributing to the rapid development of this storm system.

Today is sure beautiful though, I'm going to pick those green tomatoes and enjoy the sunshine.

Sounds like a plan. Me too.
Thanks for the warning, Pony. I haven't been tuning in to the tube weatherwise lately. We need to get our potatoes in and protected too.

The little weather wretch on the morning TV show here was gleefully predicting the "s-word" this AM. Supposed to be at higher elevations only. Actually, they've been predicting frost for the past couple of weeks, and while the temps have been down, frost hasn't hit anything near me yet -- the veggie patch and flower beds are still going strong.
Brrrrrrrrrr - don't even want to think about it!

I've been outside, getting the shed cleared out, gathering and gleaning and planning.
Well, at least we had some warning, as Peppa pointed out.
I'm only inside long enough to rest my back and hydrate. Then I'm back out there, because it IS a lovely day!

Still need to till 1/2 of the garden..tiller quit on the the other day, build 2 boxes for the bunnies, finish transplanting...I'm SURE there's a whole bunch more stuff that needs to be done But I do love the snow!

ok I'm jealous! we've still got highs that are in the low 80's some days. I'm tired of hot weather and am ready for some cold stuff! I really dislike the heat and humidity of summer and its just hanging on too long for me.

I remember it snowed on Thanksgiving once about 16 years ago. Everybody was SHOCKED! It never snows that early here. Anyway... I think every now and then it has snowed in November here... not very often. The leaves are just changing over here. It has still been pretty warm.
Throw a snowball for me, will ya?

Snow??? We have already had snow 3 times this winter. Yep, WINTER. Right now NWS is perdicting snow starting tomorrow night (they are wrong, spitting already) and continuing until Wed. some time.
I like snow, in winter. The good news is that after the Sept. storms everything greened up and it has be a good fall. Looking like fall is slipping away though.

Snow?
Did I miss "Injun Summer" or what? It can't be winter yet. The Chicago Tribune hasn't printed the yearly pic of the grandfather and grandson by the campfire, then and only then will it be the end of fall.

I thought the Trib stopped printing that graphic because it isn't P.C. At least there was a big brouhaha a few years ago about it.
Oh, well. As pointed out, it will warm up a wee bit by next week -- just a couple of nights to go out and throw some sheets over the veggies I want to try to save if I can!
Now I'm off to see if the Trib is going to print Injun Summer...
Found it!
