Can you make Ice cream out of instant milk?

Is it possible, and what is it like?

It's like ice. You have to nuke it before you can dip it. Make small batches because it gets harder every time you refreeze it. If you serve it all when it's made, so it doesn't go in the freezer at all, it's sort of like soft ice cream and not too bad. Otherwise you might just as well drink the cold milk.

If you don't mind the taste of powdered milk you can make a frozen dessert from it. Cook it up first with some cornstarch to thicken it, add flavorings and sugar and a dash of salt. Beat it with a mixer before freezing or use an ice cream freezer. Some fat, oil or butter cooked into the pudding will help it have a better texture.

We make the magic milkshakes from hillbillyhousewife.com all the time. They turn out like a Wendy's frosty - it's not Ben and Jerry's, but for the kiddos it works great.
