For those of you who haven't noticed.....

This is the largest-appearing Full Moon of the year. Being at perigee, or its closest point to the Earth, it appears slightly larger than usual, although this is not immediately apparent to the human eye. The ninth Full Moon of the year had different names in different cultures, but this is not the Harvest Moon. By definition, the Harvest Moon is the Full Moon nearest the September Equinox, and this year that makes it the Full Moon of October 6.

Happy Harvest Moon! It's bright - it's huge!

I've just come in from putting the chickens to bed and was remarking on how bright it is. I could see the horses halfway down the front pasture, even the black mare!

We were driving the last leg of our vacation trip until 3 a.m. this morning.
We really enjoyed having the moon shing in through our roof top window.

Some say this is associated: I had a light frost on September 11, but this morning I had 29° here and it looks like a repeat of that tonight.

Bright and chilly here. Still no frost yet this fall.

Frost and a huge full harvest moon. Beautful! What more could you ask for. We usually have a light frost in september, but had none.

It was wonderful! I worked late and came out of Lowe's (first after work errand) and ended up just standing in the parking lot drinking it in for a while. Down here it was the most amazing dusty peach colour and you could see all of the craters so clearly. I love these moons, and had lost track, so it was a great surprise.

As the moon was rising, we were driving east. The setting sun behind us, the rising moon in front. The moon was incredible. I've only seen such a big moon once before. As it rose it became smaller and the color of the sky was a subtle rainbow.

I saw it yesterday when I left for work. It was huge and kind of reddish colored as it was sinking in the west.
