Small business - good program for organizing

Anyone have a suggestion for software to help a new small business with accounting/organization? We have Microsoft Office Access but I think you'd need a PhD to use it! I just ain't gettin it!

It has always seemed like there's a lot of business minded people here and eager to help with questions.

Thanks, Mike

I'd suggest going to a reputable CPA and have them set up your books. Once set up they should be easy for you to keep them. I've worked for a couple new start up businesses and they both used this approach. I was able to keep books without difficulty. It was also good to be able to call on the CPA when we needed advice. Getting off on the right foot with good financial/tax advice is a good idea. A CPA can also advise you whether or not you should incorporate for tax advantages. Ask around for a GOOD CPA because not all are qualified to do this.

Accounting and organizing are two entirely different things and you probably aren't going to find ONE program that does both. There are many good programs out there that are free to inexpensive that will probably do the trick on the accounting side, if your demands aren't too great. Check out www.nonags.com for a good list of business freeware that could have what you are looking for.

Mike, Look into Quickbooks. Its very user friendly and I don't think its to expensive. I would still think about hiring an accountant to do your year end taxes, or at least review your books in case of any errors.

Quickbooks... I recommend it to all my clients because most accounting firms use it as well, and you can make an end of the year accountant's copy for them to review when filling out your tax forms.

Heres something I've been thinking about trying on the farm to replace the ol ledger.
Turbo Cash

It looks easy to use, and its free. It sure wouldn't hurt to try it.
