Bad Neighbor

The widowed woman who lives just to the north of us likes to eat fish almost as much as we do, so whenever the fish are cooperating we take her up a few fillets. And, often as not, she responds in a day or two with a loaf of fresh baked bread, or a cake, etc.

We took her up some white perch fillets yesterday. While talking with her I mentioned that between cutting corn off the cob and filleting fish I had burned out my electric knife so these fillets, done with a regular fillet knife, didn't look quite as pretty as they usually do.

Well I was just out in the yard slicing up some cedar for this winters kindling when she walks over with a brand new, cordless electric fillet knife. I told her I couldn't possibly accept it. She told me not to be so foolish, that she really appreciated all the fish we brought her and she wanted to show her appreciation. I relented and accepted the knife.

Now I'm going to have to go fishing tomorrow so I can try out the new knife. How does this woman think I am ever going to get my fall chores done

It's so nice to hear a story like this. It's refreshing to hear that there are still such kind people in this world... and that would be on both ends of your story

Sometimes...It's just best to get along with your "Bad Neighbor" and not cause problems . Besides fishing isn't so bad...is it..
It's the least you could do...
Thanks for the story! It takes my mind off my "good neighbors"

So do I, and I'm looking at her right now eating my cider apples off the ground. If she starts in on the ones on the trees there's gonna be trouble!

I saw the name of the thread and thought "Oh no, can't we all just get along?" So wonderful to know of good neighborly things as well.
