driven well point

I have been looking around for a source to purchase a water well point, --is there any other place but Lehmans to get such a thing? Just wanted to be sure I was getting the best one for my soil type! Thanks...

In our area, most rural hardware stores carry well points...as does some of the "big box" building materials stores. I've driven well points. If you have any soil other than sand or sand/gravel, I'd not even waste my time. (where the well point ends up, that is) I'd also not recommend this if you have to drive the point thru clay or any soil with a lot of rock.

I hope you have better luck with your well than I had this week. We hit rock at 52 feet and drove the casing. Water was another issue. At 400 feet we had no joy. At 500 feet the well driller ask "what to do"? I told him we were 500 feet closer to getting water and to continue. Fortunately at 525 feet we hit a vein, 15 + gallons per minute. Drilled another 20 feet to have some place for the sediments to gather.

This land is sandy loam with forty feet of gravel under that--all the wells here are right around 20 feet--this will not be the main well, but, I do want to have it for back-up. We don't have many hardware stores that sell this kind of thing--the big guys cater to those who are looking for expensive and showy projects. And the smaller one that I used to go to for all things used around the 'stead, changed hands and is no longer selling those kinds of things. So--I have looked on ebay--and Lehmans has one, just wondering what else there might be out there--thanks!

Find out who drills the wells in your area, and it is very likely they will have a wellpoint. I have a 24 foot well that is 1 1/4 pipe with the point screwed it the end of it. The well has been there 46 years. When it was first put down we had to pull the pipe and replace the screen (point) due to rust and corrosion every 3 years. After the third time I had a stainless screen put on it. The screen hasn't needed replaced since. Over 30 years. Well drillers in Indiana are no longer allowed to drive the 2 inch wells that were commonplace 40 years ago. I don't know about other states.
