Help! My oven is not working

What can the problem be? Thanks.

With the new computer systems, ovens are not easy to diagnose on your own. When mine died, I bought a $35 table-top oven that I can take camping or use outside on the porch. It's a lot easier to clean, too, as it has a removable liner I can wash in the sink.

Hey Southpaw. What seems to be the problem? Is your over gas or electric and about how old is it. Is it electronic or old fashion?

Is it electric or gas? What are the symptoms. Come on, I don't think any of us has a crystal ball.

It's the oven portion of a gas oven - Kenmore, no owner's manual available.

Do you smell gas when you turn it on? Is it a late model with an electric ignition or does it have a pilot light? I would personally be turning off the gas until the repair man could come or if you can find the manual online to instruct you how to re-light the pilot.

BTW, do the burners work?

Does it have "touch pad" controls or knobs?

You probably need a new Thermocoupler...If your pilot light is lit (is it?), but it won't ignite the main burner, your thermocoupler is shot. That's the little thing that the pilot light is heating up.

Remove it and take it to an appliance parts store and get another one just like it.

I agree with thermocoupler if the pilot light is still lit. If it won't light it could be something as simple as a clogged orfis. That is the little jet the gas comes through. Maybe something bubbled over in the overand ran down in it, or maybe a small piece of rust is blocking it.

Whirlpool and Kenmore are the same. Just different names. Maybe you can find a Whirlpool manual for your stove.

Thanks everyone, I got it! I forgot to turn selector knob on (which gets turned on along with the temperature knob). Sorta a pre-senior moment, I guess!
