Make one out of a coffee can and a broom handle. Cut a v-notch in the top edge of a coffee can. Screw the can bottom to a broom handle cut flush. Put some foam/padding material in the bottom of the coffee can so as not to bruise fruit. I've seen homemade fruit pickers made from conduit and welded wire as well.

The light housing and protector grid on a plastic trouble light kinda resembles a picker......or maybe fashion one from a heavy plastic bottle, using the neck as the base?

picker

I have one that came from my grandparents farm. The head was made from something like hardware cloth. Padding the bottom is a good idea, especially with something really easily bruised, like peaches.
There is the advantage of using something you can see through so you can see what is happening with the fruit.
