I read in Oklahoman this week?maybe? that it wouldn't be lifted since we are still in drought - we still had only received 60% of the average precip, and the conditions were still bad... Checked the state site:
http://www.state.ok.us/~okag/redflag/forred.html
there doesn't seem to be a posting rescinding the burn ban. If you dig into the links they provide, you'll get to a picture of the state's Vegatation Greenness as of 8/29.

compare that to a year ago:

We're still in the red, I'm afraid.
All that red means

as best I know, the fire ban is all still on ... there was still a sign in front of one of the local fire stations and they were announcing it on the local radio station on Friday. I went and looked where Creek county is, and I am 2 counties below you, in the very tip of Pittsburg county, so I don't think your county would be too much different then mine (although it might). I heard it rained on the OU game today out in Norman .... I'm still waiting for that rain to get here! lol (I am thinking it's another rain that is gonna miss me!)

oh, and I'm sorry you are gonna miss the camp out next week ...... maybe next time?

The red flag is still flying down here in the SE corner. I thought they would lift the ban with all the rain we've been getting. Everything looks so green, until you walk out and look closely. There's still a lot of brown under the new lush green growth.

I'm in Choctaw county, as far as I know the ban is still on. Any rain seems to just go around my place by about 10 miles. we have had 1.2 in. all summer. Even one of my spring fed ponds is dry, killing all the fish. Old hickory and oaks are dieing as well. The acorn crop is about the size of BB's and already falling. Now I have heard rumors that an exceptionally cold winter is on tap.

Way up here in the N.E. corner we have been getting a lot of rain for the last few weeks. It would take a tanker full of gas to catch our grass on fire! However, they say there are many places surrounding us that hasn't had any rain yet. Fire ban or not, I'm building a fire in my fire pit on Monday and gonna roast me a big ole deer ham. Barbeque sandwiches for Laborday.

Is the fire ban still on here in Creek County? Yes it is, as of 9-3-6. Not much left here to burn anyhow since the last wild fire.
