Propane prices around the country
I was just quoted a price of $2.659 per gallon of propane. This is a reserve (early buy) price for lock in and must be prepaid. I have been doing this for years - but, now I question the price.
I am in upstate New York near Albany.
What are the prices in other locations around the country for a gallon of Propane? Are we being had locally, regionally, or as a nation?
Thanks.

Bill,
We are in Upstate NY also.. 45 NW of Albany. When we got filled up a couple of weeks ago.. it was over $3.00! I was furious! Dh called and got the price down a tad.. but I think it was in the $2.70-80 range. It is ridiculous. We got a bigger tank in hopes that it would bring our price down... higher usage=lower price, or so we thought.

We just filled for $1.69 per gal and this was the quoted summer price. The other supplier wanted $2.00 per gal.
It still is costlier than last season
m at a $1.39 if I remember correctly.
This is in Arkansas near Ft Smith

i find the differences in price you all are quoting to be amazing. in my opinion it is beyond normal supply and demand and borderline criminal.

I've checked this past week with several local suppliers. It ranges from $1.49 a gallon all the way up to $2.59 a gallon. In between those extremes ..there are 6 other local suppliers averaging about $1.69 a gallon.

Propane prices
Near Ithaca, NY-- We just paid $2.69 a gallon. However, we are a small user, (water heater only) so they charge us more per gallon. I think as heating fuel, you could probably buy it $.30 cheaper here. I'm amazed how regional the pricing for propane seems to be.

Minimum 100 gallons $2.36. Less than 100 gallons was $2.69, I think.

You'll see a difference between the summer special price and the "Prebuy for winter" price. Summer special is gonna (should) be quite a bit lower, summer is a slower time of year for the industry and its to try to intice (sp?) customers to buy. The supplier is basically betting on the future for the prebuy. Hoping your prebuy is not alot (read lost profit) less than the going rate, say in the middle of Jan.

I don't prepay, and we only use it for cooking and refrigeration. But our price so far is the highest, $3.65 for 41.4 gallons. I didn't realize it was so high! And my supplier is the lowest price in our area! Can't wait to get my heating stove going - do most of my cooking (on that, and my cookstove) and heating hot water.

In southwest Colorado (Durango to be exact) it's $1.60/gallon for a 1000 gallon pre-buy.
Luckily we have nearly 500 gallons and my builder is working on my solar H2O heating system as we speak so I won't be taking advantage of the pre-buy personally.
I think our fire station(s) will though.
