Exclamation Dishwasher on the Fritz Q's

Hi all! I'll get right to the point here...... We have a Kenmore dishwasher, about 8 years old, it worked last Friday just fine. I tried turning it on this morning and all it does is buzz real soft, no water is coming either, if I turn the knob selector while it's on it goes through all the changes and even opens the soap dispenser but still no water. I took the front off, looked at the wiring and everything looks new, no burnt wiring, nothing out of the ordinary. So I need to pick some brains, do these have a small water pump in there? What would cause the buzz and no water? I am sure I can fix it, if you guys can guide me bit on the diagnosis. Thanks!

My Kenmore did the same thing at about the same age. DH took the back off and cleaned something. The water supply was blocked. I remember it was disgusting but I don't remember anything else. When I turned it on after the cleaning I was surprised to find how much the water pressure had improved. I hadn't realized it had slowed down over time.

Ask this on the Shop Talk forum. They could probably help.

My dishwasher has not been used for about a year. We had new counter tops put on and in the proces it appears that the drain connection came off. We kept having problems with water leaking. We haven't had it fixed and I really don't mind. There is just dh and I so I do the dishes after the evening meal. I enjoy watching out the window as I wash the dishes. I could call Sears to come out and fix the problem but they would charge us a lot and it is something simple to fix but we are not able to do it. That is old age.

Sounds like a blockage in the supply line. There is no pump to fill the dishwasher. There is a water selinoid that could also be faulty.

I actually asked the same exact questoin about a month ago here and got some great answers. Same thing was happening with ours. It was the "water inlet valve" part. Actually, when DH took that part off to replace, he found that hte line was also clogged with gunk and needed a cleaning as well. this is most likely the problem in your case as well.

Excellent! Thanks guys! I'll check the lines tomorrow morning while DH is fishing. Hadn't thought of a clog, but we do run off a well with Very hard water.

OK OK I got so excited that it might be an easy fix, I tore into tonight lol. Unfortunately, no clogs, in fact all the lines in and out looked really clean. I verified water pressure coming in and when I tipped it some water came out but that was pretty gross after sitting the weekend in a house with no a/c lol. So I guess I'm onto the water solenoid and have to check for a price on that--that looked pretty easy to get to also. Thanks again all!
