I heard coyotes last night...

Not wanting to highjack the wolf thread...A large pack of yapping coyotes went by the house early this morning. They were so loud that my ears were ringing! After they passed by, I found that my heart was pounding - I guess it is just a natural fear even though all my livestock is locked up tightly in the barn. I used to leave the sheep & goats out at night when it is cooler, for grazing, but the coyotes are so plentiful in recent years that I don't feel safe doing that anymore.

Wouldn't hesitate to protect my livestock or the melons in my fenced garden if necessary though!

We've been hearing them at night, lately, too, so I've been closing up the barn at night. Nigerian Dwarf kids would make a nice little snack, I'm sure. Yesterday, we heard them in the middle of the day - now that's scary!

I lost a couple of Muscovy drakes a few weeks ago - I'm guessing to coyotes. They were pretty much shredded and not much of them left.

I've heard them every night for years. Just a normal thing around here.

Exactly. I lose a few ducks that 'must' run free out of the 1 acre electric fenced pasture. Survival of the fittest (smartest) I say.

Coyotes cycle with the wild turkeys around here. Lots of coyotes in the spring and fall, we did see a very light colored one in the summer tho hunting mice in the hayfield. As long as they keep their distance we live peaceably, but I wouldn't hesitate to shoot them if they started killing chickens or running the horses.

We hear them almost every night - if they were quiet one night, I'd wonder where they went!

I acquired a LGD.

Now I hear the arrroooooooooooooo of the coyotes followed by a big deep WOOF WOOF WOOF ... and I roll over and go back to sleep, knowing Bob the Dog has things under control out there.
