Is this wrong? (and any good ideas?)

I am inheriting a fair chunk of change. Of course I am going to use it to become debt free, and closer to independence, but......................

I am not a rich man. I most likley never will be, and for the most part that is ok, but..............................................

It would be fun, even if for just a short time, to experience some of the finer things in life. I realize that in this age of instant access that most anyone can learn most anything about most anyone. I also suspect that those who provide luxury services and products check up on potential customers to see if they really have the bucks to be in the same room.......................

Now, with a big pile of money in my account (even if for just a short time), I would like to explore the other side. I'm thinking of test driving a Hummer, looking at luxury lakeside condos, test flying a small plane, eating some really good grub. First question is ; Is this wrong?

Second question; If no to the first question, any good ideas?

If you have a particularily salacious idea, feel free to PM me.

Spend a little to treat yourself and then go buy some GOLD bullion (and possibly a little SILVER) with the rest.

well if I were you and say I inhereted 200,000.
I would pay off or buy my dream place up to a certain percentage of the money. Maybe fix up if it needs a new roof or something.

pay off any bills that I could or had left over

car or truck? Is yours in good shape need repairs or just go for the new one if there is enough to do so

Animals? If you have animal do they need better shelter or something? Maybe purchasing 4 months worth of hay and /or food

How about some solar on your house if you are in an area that has lots of blackouts

Ever wanted to go to school for something? That is something that sticks with you forever.

On the fun money part. Hmmm maybe there is some place you have alway wanted to see? If it's say the grand canyon, set up a budget and stay in a nicer hotel have that 150 a plate dinner in the fancy restaurant and then top it off with a helicopter ride over the canyon to get some beuatiful shots that will last a lifetime.
Maybe set up a $1000 winter vacation budget and then save some and do a $1000 summer vacation budget.

If you have to ask if it's 'wrong' or 'right' to spend on whatever you mention, and to ask others 'salacious' opinons, it seems to me something in your consciounce isn't set straight about the use of money.
I'm sure whatever amount you got will go pretty fast and furious once you have those ideas for how the 'other side' spend.
I sure wish my lottery would come through soon. In the meantime, I'll just slog along on 'this side' of the 'other side'.

OK, Please re read the post. I am not proposing to SPEND any of the money on these things. I am proposing to use the appearance of wealth to allow me to sample some of the finer things in life.

No it is not wrong, but just don't do anything that you might regret later. I would use it for something that would give me lasting pleasure rather than short term gratification.

Treat it as a blessing and a threat. Money is the root of all evil. It can make you great and horrid. Try and find a good place to invest the money; a local school, a church or another rep. organization. Above all, keep on keepin' on. I've never considered a rich man to have an advantage, sometims even seems like it could be a disadvantage. Be well.

I guess I don't understand. To me, you don't need the "appearance of wealth" to enjoy any of the things you've mentioned.

You really shouldn't do these things alone, I would be glad to accompany you for your own good.

As far as I know you only get one shot at this thing called life, enjoy the ride whenever possible. Possibly a flight on Virgin Gallactic?

I agree with Ravenlost. Just wear clean slacks and a starched white shirt. You can do any of the items listed. Many very wealthy folks don't ACT like they have bucks, and lots of sad sacks with overloaded credit cards act wealthy.

You didn't have to inherit money to do fun things. We took our kids to a Ferrari dealership when they were in elementary school. It was fascinating, and the kids still talk about it.

Folks who test drive Hummers don't have to show their bank statements to the car dealership.

Real estate agents will show you property without having you fill out loan application paperwork first.

Money is not the root of all evil, but the LOVE of money is a root of all kinds of evil, not Evil in and of itself. The distinction is important.

1 Timothy 6:10 (NIV)

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

It's a matter of priorities and your relationship to money. I just read the other day that money is not to be spent, but to managed. I like that.

For some good money management tools, go check out

Their Money Map is VERY cool, and they have other great resources.

BTW, nice handle ya got there.

I think something involving that Hummer and large quantities of mud as well... And it should be a real Hummer, not those hideous H2 and H3's...

Are you anywhere near a major body of water and a major city? There are some really fun boats to check out...

I like Angie's ideas, but I can't even walk through the door of Needless Markups without getting a nosebleed...

Nothing wrong with your idea at all. If you want to take a little walk on the ritzier side, just to see how the other half lives ... go for it!

Why spend the rest of ytour life saying should've, could've, would've.
