How come we don't have a hunting/fishing forum here?

People have started forums up on here on just about everything else. I know there are a lot of hunters and fishermens who visit here. I know that from some of the responses I get when I ask a hunting or fishing question.

In my world hunting and fishing is just as much a part of homesteading as raising animals or plants. If I can stick a deer and some fish in the freezer it helps cut down on the amount of meat I have to buy at the grocery store.

I cannot answer why,
but guns and bows/arrows, taking care of growing/getting your own food is often talked about in Self Reliance forum. maybe you should try down there and see how a thread would work. Closest thing to what you are looking for, that I know of.

maybe some dont think its pc.

but i agree with you. nothing is more homesteading than hunting down your meat the old fashioned way instead of raising it in a pen with grain.

I think a hunting/fishing forum is a great idea. Maybe some of the Mods could weigh in here and let us know if its possable if theres enough support.

hunt lease

Most of us hunt our own places but I do know that some are interested in hunting leased land. I have a lease that is open in Marlboro county SC. The 236 acre property has turkey and deer. PM me if interested.

Might have it also include trapping in the section content. I know people that may be interested in discussing either getting rid of vermin or picking up some extra money.

Things generally move slowly here and as Angie says SR has always been the catch-all for hunting and trapping. Why not start a few threads and see how much support you get there?

As Self Reliance MOD....
If you wish to come down and use it for hunting/fishing/trapping you are cordially invited.

But, be aware.... I get very MODISH if things become uncivil.

I expect people to have their own opinion and state why you believe that way. I expect you not to put other's opinions down just cause you don't think that way.... and mostly BE CIVIL.

But Self Reliance is about taking care of yourself, and your things more on your own than expecting others to do it for you.

and the Tin Foil hat crowd does pop up from time to time, and they talk guns and Prep for weather or bad government decisions.

But you are welcome to come down and use it, seems to be a topical fit.

Angie

We were talking about hunting today. I'd like to put two deer in the freezer this year (1 per person limit here). There are a lot of woodcock thanks to much better weather during the nesting season compared to last year. I haven't seen many partridge though. DH thinks he'd like to go bear hunting this year. He talked to someone about it today.

We do a lot of fishing but release 99% of what we catch. There's too much mercury in Maine's water to make eating much fresh water fish safe. I've seen more lakes this summer than I've seen in the 16 years we've been here thanks to having bought a boat.

Now see thats the problem with posting there.Graphite fishing rods already conduct enough electricity (lightning!) with out wearing the tin foil hat to.

That happens to be where i disappear to in late winter early spring.Fishing forums to talk bass fishing.

You could also include Foraging for your own food type stories too. I think it would be nice to have one, That way folks can get An idea from true hunters.

Anyone interested in Moderating it if they would let us have one? I'm not sure I would be a good moderator as I'm only on here for about 30 minutes at a time. Sometimes twice a day and sometimes I might go several days without being on here. All depending on how busy I am at the moment. I usually only get on here for about 30 minutes before my bedtime. Not sure if that would allow me enough time to moderate. Plus, I'm not a computer wiz as some other folks are here.

Maybe we could call it Outdoor Homesteading. Will cover hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, hiking, etc. etc.

A small word of advice....

Ask nicely down in the admin area, that's where Chuck would see and consider something like this...

Smart aleck comments probably will not help your cause.

So, do as you see fit. Good luck,Angie

I was planning on doing lots of fishing when I get back and I always catch a lot how safe is it to eat the fish in AR? I know they are contaminated everyplace but is there a web site to let me know how bad AR water is? Thanks

R H, I can't hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle, but I sure do like to get out in the woods and carry along a gun. ( have to at least look the part ) lol. I like the idea you have about the forum.

I would love to see a forum like this as this will be our first official hunting season. We have never hunted before. We fished like crazy in AK but never hunted and I think a forum like that would be great to learn from and ask advice.

hmmmm....I don't know. Maine has a section in its law book that tells us which lakes we shouldn't eat any fish from and which ones to limit the amount we eat. Maybe AR does something like that.
