What kind of adhesive?

My grandson is making a pond and needs to overlap the liner and can't find an adhesive that says it is specifically for that. Some say not for rubber liners. Any ideas of what he should use? The folks in Lowes didn't have a clue. Thanks. Rita

Are you positive that it is rubber and not PVC or HDPE?

like cabin fever said, you really need to know what the material is before you can get the right adhesive. it makes a big difference.

The adhesives recommendation chart, located under the miscellaneous listing in the links library suggest using 3M's '80' on rubber to rubber gluing.

the plastic liners for land fills around here are welded together. Ive never heard of a glue for rubber pond liners. good luck

Hi, thanks for the replies. Grandson (being a teenager) doesn't have the box the stuff came in anymore but "thinks" it's polypropylene (sp). Does this sound right? If so what would you use on it. He says he called it rubber because it looks like rubber. Rita

Be careful if you do glue it together. If you plan on putting fish or other aquatic life in the pond, the glue might be toxic. Read the label on the glue

Our son shot a rock thru the wall/liner of our pool and we patched the bullet sized hole with the same adhesive that we used when patching a leaky waterbed. Just an idea. DEE

Most any plant nursery place sells water garden supplies nowdays and will have what you want. Lilypons.com sells liner seaming tape for $4 per ft. and liner patching tape for $5 per ft. They list their liners as being UV ray resistant rubber, 45 mil thick. You can also reach them at 1-800-999-5459.

If its EPDM rubber ( black looks like what innertubes are made of. )
first glue the lap with contact cement all but the last inch or so , then apply butyl rubber caulking or polyurathane ( better yet seam sealer for epdm from a roofing suppier)
if it polyethaline (visquene) your out of luck solvents dont work heat welding is all you can do
