Its' a marketing ploy. Since you can't have it the desire builds up until you have to get one. I got mine shipped in UPS from Colorado and no questions asked.

From the site where we bought our Big Berkey, it looks like only the portable Berkey camping filter is unavailable in IA at this time. In case anyone is interested, I highly recommend the jamesfilter site as a good place to purchase the Big Berkey from; they seemed honest and from our experience they had really have great customer service.

I got an AquaRain, and the ceramic filters are interchangable,so I havent heard of any problem on getting those, they are just ceramic, charcoal and may or may not be silver impregnated, doesnt sound hazardous?

Was this Berkey,or a reseller?

ZealYouthGuy - here's your laugh for the day...I read the thread title as: "Hey IA and CA, why can't y'all by Berkley." I could understand why California would want to keep Berkley but I had to read the thread to figure out why Iowa would be interested.

Hugs
Marlene

Berkley in Iowa, I'd love to see that.

The people in Iowa City freak out most Iowans as it is, and compared to Berkley, Iowa City college students look like young Republicans.

I'm sorry but that's not really a signed pledge that it is accurate; not that long ago there was an article in Countryside advocating mixing bleach and Dawn dishwashing detergent for cleaning drains, which is a real bad and dangerous idea.
Sometimes magazines just get too busy to check their sources.

Or maybe one shipper isn't shipping to those states but there appears to be no reason listed on the website.

Berkey is the one who put it in THEIR advertisement, it's not an article by them (countryside).

Check out the Royal Berkey, etc. The bigger units. At the bottom it says the thing about Iowa and California.
