nope this is here in MO.. We are going to hold off on moving north for awhile.
Actually We're thinking we may just use the parcel there for vacations and such . Then after we've saved up for a few years try and purchase a dairy farm up there.
Its a pretty place here... If it wasn't for the heat. Now If I could move this parcel up there..we'd be set

Very nice looking place
I remember looing at a place near Bolivar after our fire as issues arose and we weren't sure of rebuilding in the same spot. It was such a nice bit of property but the house was completely too small for us (family of 5) 40 acres fenced, with barns, ponds all for the bargain price of 119k.
Property values have just skyrocketed in the area...a neighbour just put her place on the market a few months ago and got 93kish I think for a 3 BR doublewide on 1.5 acres...just boggled my mind as we paid nowhere near that for our place with more than twice the acreage.

Thank you . Prices in our area have about doubled in the 2 years we looked. We though we picked it up for a pretty good deal at under 2k/acre.
now we're trying to figure out how we're going to finance our next place (dairy farm in VT).. We've plan to purchase/move in about 3-5 years. In the mean time I hope to find something that makes better $$.. Take a long time to make a downpayment on 250k at 7/hr..

Great looking land. It's sad, and shameful, that someone just dumped trash on the pond site. Best wishes in obtaining your dairy.

Most of the dairy farms here in Maine are losing ground...selling house lots or getting a day job and hay farming remaining pastureland.
Its really sad.
My brother moved here from Mt. View MO a year or so ago...working for a farmer and living in a shed w/o power here in Maine...he was working at a dairy farm in MO and had a trailer to live in on the farm....he'd love to go back but I'm afraid he can't ...thats what happens when you burn bridges.
Your land in MO looks like a good place to start. Goodluck.

just curious as to why they are going under.. I had heard that organic dairy was the way to go..
On the other note Mt. View is a beatiful area as well. Its about 50 miles east of our property but we looked there as well..

Prices used to be guaranteed by milk commission and now they are not
http://www.maine.gov/tools/whatsnew/...1815&v=Article
and more recently
http://morningsentinel.mainetoday.co...79056132.shtml
A lady I used to work with...her husband switched organic a few years ago and at first they did well but now they have gone toward the trucking/collecting part of farming for Oakhurst. And even the trucking business is rough w/ fuel costs and a few employees "milking" workers comp
She used to joke that if "I had 10 kids (free labor) they'd be able to make a go of it and since there's only 4 the farm may be no more"
Employer tax, workers comp. ins, health ins. are huge expenses when hiring enough people to run a farm.

Can't wait for deer season...we got new guns after the fire and haven't even had a chance to break em in proper. We usually hunt over near Seymour our place in Texas county is such a loong haul when you got kids to bring along and goats to milk.
Got a brand new freezer just begging to be filled with venison...my daughter ( very soon to be 8 ) wants to try her hand at deer hunting so we're going to let her. We got a nice youth set up for our son that we'll let em both use.
