Collectable Fishing Lures ??

.............I've been consolidating four different tackle boxes into three , hopefully . In one which was my grandfathers there are 15 or 20 old fishing lures that I thought might have some kind of collectable value . They have the mfgers name of "Haddon" on them so Does anyone hereabouts have any knowledge on this subject . thanks , fordy...

The name is probably Heddon, I think.

I had some of my granpa's old lures about ten years ago. Two were in boxes, new. I did a little research and thought they were maybe made in the 20s-30s. I took a chance and put them on ebay and the two in boxes went for around $150 each. Thanks again, Grandpa. Oh, I kept the topless mermaid lure.

There are several authoritative books on the subject of fishing lures and fishing tackle collectables. I think the author is Carl White. You might google up "Collectable Fishing Lures" and it might be worth your while to check out the book to look up some values. You could have a gold mine there, and if you have any lures new in the original packaging, those are the Most valuable. Heddon is a good name if you have some of those lures, almost assured of some value more than what was originally paid for them back in the 50's or before.

Fishing lures and their value

Old lures in original boxes have the most value, loose used ones usually don't bring a whole lot.

There definitely highly sought by some folks.
Theres been an add in our local paper for over a year wanting to buy any.
They average about $25 each for used ones with a few paint flaws. But every so often you run across a rare one.
You can find the books on them at the local library.Better to no what you have before looking to sell.

I no a guy that does awesome paint jobs on them if you have one that you'd like to have repainted to use.I don't mean on one that might be worth some thing obviously.

Some jerk stole both my best boxes and 6 rods, out of our camper last year.So i gotta replace every thing. Hope to find him using them some where.

...............I've got to run by our county library tomorrow and see what kind of reference material they've got . I've probably got 25 or so of these old lures . Most of my stuff is just very basic premade leaders , all sizes of hooks , fish scales , bobbers , fishing line , etc . I've got two new reels and two basic rod and reels so I'll eventually get by WM and enhance my selection . thanks guys for your advise . fordy...

Goodness at the lures on Ebay. http://sporting-goods.listings.ebay....istingItemList

I'm not even going to search for what the old rod i had one time might be worth.Last i heard it was guessed to be $250 on the low end.
It was a two pieced Octagon Heddon bait cast rod in an aluminum tube.In mint condition.numbered 126 or so i think it was. They have never been worth a hole lot.But the prices are going up.

Another link looking to appraise or buy. Also lots of historic pictures of the Heddon factory.http://www.oldfishinglure.com/contact.htm
