Barn builders beware lol
I am constantly, way in the back of my mind thinking on how im going to build my barn, when I build my barnI will get utility poles free from the Elect co, and it will be a pole barn, with a leanto shed on the back aka West. Ive got maybe 300 rough cut 3X4X10/11 pieces for the roof sides, ect. The roof will be of tin, the sides of wood boards nailed to these pieces spaced appropriately apart. My question is, Have you built a barn cheaply, or have you seen one built thataway, and would you describe it. Pleasae give sizes, materials used, ect. Mine, I intend (wishin, hopin, figgerin, & prayiun, will be 40 sq with a 40 sq shed on it

We built our barn exactly this way out of recycled materials.
It's way smaller than you're talking about, but it works perfectly, looks nice, and the animals are very comfy.
It cost us about $100. The costly part was for paint, concrete for footers, and the screws/hardware. Everything else we scrounged. (Oh, the poles are
ironwood that we cut down when we were thinning our woods).

I built a 12x24 open face barn with 9' cieling at the front down to 7' at the back. Did it all for less than $50. I used slab wood that I got free from a lumber yard, cut my corner poles from cedar trees (they grow tall and strait here), and for the roof I used a used billboard sign which is made of really tuff vinyl. The billboard is (was) 13x40, I had to cut a little to fit. I got it free for doing my brother-in-law's chores while they went on vacation. It looks like an old western fort but heck, the cow doesn't care. I took a lot of ideas from, believe it or not, the Little House books that my wife was reading to the girls. The only money I spent was for nails and gas for the chainsaw.

It's small, one floor. We used old plywood for siding, so the poles were spaced to accomodate that size. It only has 4 sheets for the length, 2 for the width.
One brace in the middle. The peak and center of long end is braced by a door jam. We chose the roof angle based on dh being able to stand upright at the lowest end, (he's 6') and the longest posts we had on hand determined the
high side, so it was random, not planned. What angle did wind up with???? Pretty average slope, slightly more than a typical ranch house has.

I bought a 25 x 40 from the curvco steel company for $3950 delivered with tax.
One of those rounded steel buildings you put up in pieces.
We really love it, was easy to put up, is thirteen feet tall with a 9x12 door opening to get anything in it.
It came with everything needed but the foundation and the doors.
Has neat screws used by the navy with a silicone sealer quaranteed leak proof for life. They sent plenty extra too.
I got that price by surfing the web site and looking at thier specials. I finally got friendly with a sales man who kept calling me and offerring deals on barns people had ordered but not paid off.
He finally came up with that deal on a barn I could afford and the size I had in mind.
Presto, on my land and up in les than a month.

I agree that for that size of a barn a person certainly cannot go wrong with a pre-fab metal barn..especially looking at longevity, weathering, hail, etc.
Great price !!
