I am so jealous! What a beautiful bird. I want to get some chickens so bad, but not even sure where to start, or how to prevent them from getting eaten by dogs or various critters.

What a nice rooster. He seems to be in a Rose of Sharon patch. What is that peeping out of the barn at us?

Hubby was looking over my shoulder when I pulled up the pic of your pretty boy and he said "that's a good looking *male chicken--insert alternate word here* they've got there".

Near Paducah?
What county are you in? My mother was born in Crittenden - my dad was born in Caldwell and I was born in Union. Grandmother was born in Livingston - a Smith from all places - Smithland! Zillions of relatives in Western Kentucky.

Umm, I think you can use the word cock when referring to a male chicken...

Really? I mean, just talking about chickens??? Or was it an innuendo thing? I would have never guessed that anyone on a homesteading site would be offeded by using the common term for a male rooster...

nice looking rooster. we have a hen that would make the perfect mate to him
here's two of our roosters
the first one is King James (definitely "in charge")
the second one is "Handsome"

Yes it is a RIR. Our other rooster is much prettier, he's a Silver Pencil Wynadotte. His name is Ed.
I have pics of him, too. There's one one the poultry board. He has a much better personality than the RIRs.
