help me find old fridge

I'm attempting to find a picture of and old refrigerator. The kind where you put a big block of ice in to keep it cool. I have come up empty handed and would like some help. Kids are killing each other so I have to abandon my search. Any help would be great. I want in my free time (lol) see if I can duplicate it in some way for the summer when I have extra produce and eggs. I dont want to run another fridge due to cost. Thank you all in advanced.

Just go into google with 'ice box', click the images mode, there are 57,700 images displayed.

The old time Ice Boxes are valuable as antiques. You could take a non-working refrigerater and put frozen jugs of ice in the upper freezer compartment. The bottom would stay cool for your use. Could be all for free if you can locate an old frige.

A non working chest freezer would be the most efficient substitute, the insulation is great and the cold will remain in the unit when the door is opened. Place ice near the drain and install a P trap in drain fitting.

We have one in our stable on my home place. We use it for feed storage. They are called ice boxes. I remember the "ice man:" coming weekly to bring chunks of ice to go in it. It was keptin the milk house then for food storage.

The bad news is I cannot send pictures through the computer. I don't have the gadgets to do it with.

I suugest that you go to a farm auction where there were older people living at some point and they just might have one. Also, check where the Amish buy their supplies. You might get a lead. I am sorry I cannot help you more.
