Black & Decker battery question

I got a set of B&D 18v FireStorm cordless power-tools off ebay earlier this year. In another auction I got a "smart-charger" for same. Well, when I put the battery that came w/ the tools on the smart-charger, it reads "NO GOOD." Other than calling the recycling number on the battery, is there anything I can do with the batt to recondition it?

Having used several brands of portable tools, I can say with a certainty that I'd never buy any brand of battery used... I've got several dead batteries, but I've charged em hundreds of time... they eventually do wear out, and there's not much that I know of that will revive them...

Hope you didn't pay much for the tools/batteries. If so, consider it a 'life lesson'...

i know that they can be reconditioned, have done it myself a few times , something to do with reversing the polarity and a car battery. you can find (purchase _) the directions on ebay i believe. it does work, at least it has on our b and d batteries.

There are sites on the internet that rebuild the battery module by changing the cells. Individual cells can be purchased also. I sometimes find replacement batteries for unknown tools at Big Lots and I can open those and salvage the cells. I am in the process of doing a rebuilt on a Dremel battery now. It will cost me about $5 to redo the Dremel unit. Getting the old units apart can be the greater challenge when rebuilding.

I hate to say it but it may be the charger.Ive had two Porter Cable chargers die.One got rained on and the other just stopped charging.I cant recall which one did what but one would read the battery as bad. When in fact nothing was wrong with it.After putting it on another charger it read and charged fine..

Utterly drain the battery, and I mean everything. Throw it in the frezer overnight, take out the next day and let thaw, the next day charge.

Actually, that charger has recharged several other B&D batts w/ no problems at all *and* the auction said they didn't know if the batt worked or not and to assume it did not. In fact, I specifically bought four brand-new batts at the same time from another source in order to have good batts.

Thanks for the info!! I'll start w/ the freezer effort and progress upwards from there!.
