water softener pellets

Up to now I've used only sodium based salt pellets for the water softener.
Since I upgraded the plumbing system in the new house part, i asked the installer of the water conditioning system about sodium getting into water not good healthwise to drink. He said that it's not a concern as sodium doesn't get in the water after conditioning and backflushing and so on.
What about that?

Also, I am considering using potassium based water softener pellets, but they are much more expensive. The information on the bag is that these potassium pellets don't put sodium in your water like regular water softener pellets.
So which is the right stuff to beleve about all this?

anyone in the know? speak.

99.9??? % of the salt gets flushed down the drain, it does not enter your clean water system. They do the backflush as the fellow said.

the salt is just there to charge your beads.

it's not like you're drinking it or anything.

We do not soften the water going to the cold faucet in the kitchen sink, or the water going outside to the hydrants. I do not like the taste of softened water. We don't use water from the hot faucet to cook with either.
