Anyone Painted Vinyl Siding?

Purchased a home with vinyl siding...don't care for the color, plus the siding has severely faded. Had looked into re-siding the whole house,(too costly at this point) but ran across a couple of articles and have talked with a couple of paint stores who indicated others have painted their siding. Anyone here had any experience good or bad?

I have never painted vinyl but in my reading I learned that painting vinyl a color that is darker than its original color will cause it to absorb more heat from the sun and warp. So if you do paint it, stick with the original color or something lighter.

I haven't painted vinyl siding but I did research painting (and painted) vinyl gutters once and the paint is still holding after 3 years. I used a good latex paint and wiped them down with paint deglosser first.

My brother bought a house a while back with a small section of REALLY ugly vinyl siding on the front. He painted it, and to my knowledge has had no problems.

Vinyl expands and contracts a lot. Paint does not expand like vinyl. Any idea what is under the vinyl?

I painted a light beige vinyl siding with a medium dark blue alkyd based paint 3 years ago. It's fine. no warping or discoloration or cracking or any visible flaws. I'm not sure if that's typical or not.

Vinyl siding can be painted. Go to the paint store. They'll have a specific type of paint for it.

We painted the vinyl siding on our previous house. Lived there for over 9 years and no problems. We went to I believe Lowe's and bought regular exterior house paint...................
