Car roof rack

I am looking for a set of universal car racks to use for carrying long items on top of my car. There used to be racks with rubber feet , a crossbar, and a nylon strap w/hooks that secured the rack to your car. In my search so far, I have found several specialty racks out there, but I have not seen any "common sense" racks available. Any help is appreciated. Thank You.

Getting scarce, aren't they? Try the thrift shops-I have found them there once in a while. Might try a junk yard-you might be surprised at what you find. This may seem odd, but try a VW parts supplier. Some of them carry roof racks for the older buses and bugs...

Try a boat place (dealer). I have one that I bought for hauling a canoe on top of my Chevette (remember those?) Worked great!

Try a sports supply place. Around here we have Cabella's (SP?)

Hi,
The Yamaha and Thule racks are good -- they are a bit pricy, but strong. They have ones for just about every car ever made.
A lot of the sporting goods places (eg REI) carry them for carrying bikes, canoes, ...
I use mine for lumber, pipe, plywood -- amazing what it will carry.

I think I still have one that I would sell but if you don't live close I have no
idea how to ship. I'm in the TX Panhandle.
