If it is almost full grown, it probably didn't fall out of the nest, it is probably learning to fly and find food. I bet the parents are around there, someplace close. If possible, put it back out near where you found it, if it has enough feathers to fly a little. Then maybe you or your brother can sit nearby and watch for awhile to see if any parent birds come back to it. Just watch out for cats! If it seems too helpless, you will have to try to find someplace safe for it, is there an animal rescue anywhere near you?

Just leave it alone and Momma Bird will take care of it. She will continue to feed it, but you need to be far away from it so she can do her work, she will try to lure you away from her baby. The baby bird will probably hide in the tall grass until it decides to try it's wings.

Birds don't react to smell as much as they do sight. Leave it where you found it and stay away from it. The parents will take care of it until it manages to shinny its way up another tree and try again.

It's a myth that adult birds will abandon a baby that's been touched by humans. Pick it up and put it back in the nest.

Yes..you did the right thing. All too often..people feel they need to take care of the little critters..but in almost all instances..it is best to leave them. Unless you know for an absolute fact that the parents are gone (dead or stolen)..It is best to leave their little ones alone.
