1. What is the best state for homesteading?

2. What state has the least amount of red-tape for homesteaders?

3. What made you decide to homestead?

1. It depends on your own background and experience.

Are you a Southerner and love it, or do you melt when it is 80? You WILL want to be comfortable where you live! Also, do you hate the rain or hate the desert?

Part of picking out a place where you will want to be outside is picking a place where you will want to be outside!

2. Sorry, I haven't the foggiest idea about which states have little red tape!

3. I got into it because I hate cities and love to see things take shape under my hands. Also, my talents all seem to be with living things.

4. Special things. Hmm.

Did you know that the BEST thing about homesteading is the freedom? You are the boss AND the customer! If the boss is happy and so is the customer, it is the origional win-win situation!
I took an approach of one project at a time. I did it to my satisfaction, and then I chose another. It was a lot of fun!

The best place to homestead if you mean only in America would be states with no zoning/septic laws and little red tape e.c.t. and "cheaper" available land which would be various counties in south east OK, AR, MO, And TN Those are by far the only places where a modicum of freedom is still possible or atleast the appearence of it, I think Alaska may be allright in the rural areas though the cold and epensive scarce available land for purchase is a consideration. Some areas of KY maybe "ok" and they have good gun laws also some places in AL may be good. All those places have lots of homesteaders so it would be easy to get advice or aquire plants and animals.Homesteading is in my blood I have always been wanting the good life.I would suggest you consider raising bees and market gardening the latter if your close enough to a good farmers market. Raise rare breed poultry and livestock for your own use to keep them from dying out.
