string...

I am looking for a string or type of string that has some wax on it. I am not looking for a craft type string or thin. I want a utility purpose wax type string. Years ago my dad used to have some it was about 1/8 of an inch wide and very thin but it was woven and covered in I am guessing parrafin wax. This string was not sticky at all as it can be with bees wax covered craft string. If any of you know where I might find some of this I would love it. Lowe.com and Home Depot showed nothing.

Arklady, not trying to string anyone along

ah no....

I don't think dental floss is considered utility string and it isn't 1/8" wide. The string I am looking for is utility string.

Arklady

PS I can get dental floss at almost any store.

Waxed thread is used often in leather crafts. It is self locking and is very usefull around the farm. I have a big spool of it in the barn all the time. You can find it here..

http://www.leatherfactory.com/products.asp?dept=259

though I'm sure there are many other places as well. Aftificial sinew is also offered on the same page which might have the flattened profile you're looking for but is not waxed.

Hope this helps.

I know that it should be around somewhere. This string.... is sticky only to itself which is why I thought it was parafin coated. It was also very white. It was just string on a roll. I could really use some of that.

Wish I knew where it went lol...

what you want is called harness thread, for repairing leather goods, saddles shoes ect.

any leather supplier shold carry it, in several colors.

I used to repair tack on the racetrack, the harness thread is thinner than 1/8 [not by much] inch but its waxed

Yoyo string (my son was a yoyo fanatic for years and we always had it around) You can also get wax in an applicator to apply to the string.
