Umm, we have a tree that looks like it has blackberries but....
I know blackberries grow in bushes and not on trees. So, what is it? We are in KY just moved here from FL.

I've got mulberries -- picked some, was trying to figure out what do do with them. I don't really care for the taste of them fresh.

A car's worst nightmare as mentioned.  However, with our 2 old mulberry trees (few do well this far north, but these are older than I am) the strawberries rarely get attacked by birds - they would rather be in the tree eating than on the ground eating....

Know that mulberry trees spread like prairie fire if left unchecked. If you don't want a mess of them, keep mowing around them.
More mulberrys (mulberries?) mean more birds.
More birds mean more poop.
More poop means more mulberry trees.

Which is exactly why our youngest son suggested we leave some berries for the birds! We love mulberries and have 5 young trees. This is our first harvest from them and DS is going to school today with his fingers and lips stained purple

Not only a car's worts nightmare, but if you hang out the wash to dry, just think of what that purple bird poop could do to the clean clothes! I have a good sized mulberry with lots of fruit many years, but the birds always get 99% of it.

Oh my, I never thought about the clothes! We have 3 enormous mulberry trees. I just made a deal with the birds, you guys eat the ones at the top of the tree and I'll eat the ones at the bottom.
A good way to harvest mulberries is to spread tarps out below the tree and then grab the trunk and shake the dickens out of it.
mmmm, mulberry pie!

HMMMMM Mulberries. I dont have any now, but when I was a poor student I rented an old store front that backed up to the railroad and they had mulberries planted all along the right of way. We used to go out there when we were real short of cash and pick mulberries. They were great with milk and sugar or put into a box of cheap corn bread mix or made into a cobbler with day old bread or some bisquick.We used to fight the birds and the Hoboes for them. But they do make a mess. I learned real quick not to roll over the berries on the sidewalk as they stained my wheels and my hands for days and days.

I love mulberries..soooooo good. Love em as much as I love blackberries and raspberries. Love em fresh..on ice cream..covered with cold milk..or baked in pie or cobbler.
I've seen huge mulberry trees up north here..with 2 to 3 foot diameter trunks. HUGE..literally tens of thousands of berries.
You are right about the birds..they love em as much as we do..and its easier for them to pick..they don't have to climb or use ladder.
