Cutting birdsmouths for rafters

Not ever having made any birdsmouth cuts I've got a question about the procedure. Is the cut made similiar to stair stringers where the initial cut is made with a skilsaw and then followed up with a handsaw to complete the cut to prevent overcutting the mark?

yes, 90 degree cut

start it with the circular saw and finish it out with a hand saw.. do not over cut with circular saw and weaken the tail.

I agree! So many carpenders say that little over cut doesn't matter, but it does to me. It just takes a couple of extra seconds per bird's mouth to do it right for crying out loud.
