Discovery series seeking families moving off the grid
Hi,
... yes, we have posted many times before, and yes, the series is still going - and now we need to find just one more family leaving the city life and heading to the wilderness to set up a homestead!
I know from past experience that many of you can't fathom why we'd be making this series, and some will perhaps rightly point out the irony of allowing a film crew to follow you as you head off for a more isolated life in the boonies - but - here's our appeal one more time, below. Sink your teeth into it if you like, slam it a little if you wish, or reply to me if you're interested in taking part - let's get a good lively debate going about TV and the state of the nation - I've always had a great response the more heated the debate is on the posting!
Love it or loathe it, here it is - enjoy!
DO YOU LONG FOR AN ADVENTUROUS OFF-THE-GRID LIFESTYLE?
ARE YOU SELLING UP, LEAVING THE CITY, AND MOVING YOUR FAMILY TO THE WILDERNESS?
LEAVING THE DESK JOB TO PURSUE A DREAM OF SURVIVAL IN AN OFF-THE-GRID REGION OF THE STATES?
Discovery are making a new TV show and are looking for families seeking a self sufficient life.
WE’RE OFFERING EACH FAMILY WE FILM WITH A START-UP FUND TO HELP THEM ACHIEVE THEIR HOMESTEADING AMBITIONS.
And each programme will feature a local homesteading expert who’ll work on-screen with our families, teaching them all the skills they need to make success of their new lives.
If you’re moving to a remote location in the US to set up a homestead, please call 1- 323 692 3038 or e-mail homestead@ricochet.co.uk
You can view all of our programmes at www.ricochet.co.uk
Many thanks.

Hi James,
I must admit I rolled my eyes when I saw your post in the topic list *again* but your intro made all the difference. Hey, you're human! Hey, you listened to the responses you got before! You're not some jerk out posting "form letters" on homesteading forums.
I've decided I like you.
So... Good to see you again I think this would be a fascinating series. I hope you do get some takers.

I'm over-qualified....nothing worthy of being called a city in Maine.....but if the light bill gets high enough we may resort to off grid
There are some nice remote and cheap pieces of land available here though

I just wish you'd take us more experienced folks but I do understand why you want a big change from one lifestyle to another. This is TV after all.

Thanks for the offer, but part of the fun in the transition is getting there ourselves - it's not about the destination, but the journey.
Good luck with your endeavors.

Hi morningstar,
I'm afraid we are looking for relative novices, as each programme will feature a local homesteading expert who will teach our families all the skills they need to make a success of their new lifestyle...
We're aware that nobody would make this type of move without some basic knowledge, but it really wouldn't work to have the expert coaching people who know all the homesteading tricks already.

not just "off Grid" But **Self Sufficient**
ok here's a question...
what about those of us who already live in the country where they plan to stay.
But are wanting to totally change/convert it to off of the grid?
my family have been wanting to convert to "off grid" for quite awhile now, but we don't know how or if there is any way we could afford it.. solar, house design etc....
not just off the grid.. but "self sufficient" in all ways that's the goal.
We are willing to do whatever it takes to get there....

I do understand. I'm not sure I'd ever do it anyway but I can see how it wouldn't be that exciting for someone to see me move my yurt from own place to another more remote location
Although another idea for your show is just to show how different families live off grid. Maybe not dramatic enough? I guess you have your idea.
I hope you find the right family.

It's just too bad we didn't think of filming ourselves as we made the transition to off the grid. We had/have the requisite Abercrombie-wearing teenage daughter who had to go out in the snow to start the generator to use the curling iron. The outhouse was a big hit too.

I would love to do this.
My wife and I have talked about homesteading for a while but we are both young (me 26 her 23) with 2 kids so i'm sure it will be a long road to get there. But were working on it

I wish this was the right fit for me now, but I'm afraid it isn't.
I would ask you, please, when your show airs to come back and post here, so all those who are interested may watch and learn as well!
