SIPs building questions

I tried to search on here for "SIP", but didn't find anything related to building panels....and I know it's been discussed before, so sorry for the redundency!!

Has anyone used these SIP panels to build? Would you do it again? Cost??

I'm thinking a small cabin-sized building. I love the fact that they are air-tight when done, and also FAST to build.

Thanks,
Chris

Smile What is it?

Different places often use different terminology. I don't know what a SIP panel is...and I I've done a bit of building...

Structural Insulated panels!

Try SIPweb for info. Sips cost between 5.00-9.00 per square foot of wall and roof area( for materials only).

We live in a SIP home. No drafts and low heating bills.

I read somewhere that they cost about 1% more than stick framing, but save 35-45% on labor costs, plus another 50% on utilities. I just like the idea of getting it all under roof in a day or so. Plus the insulative qualities.

How big is your house?

I'll check out that website! Thanks!

Our house is 1200 Square feet, but we did the porch roof with sips , so we can easily add another 800 feet at any time.

It went up in a few days with a crew had not done SIPs before.

I would not go back to a stick built home.

We were involved in a project that used SIPs. The manufacturer made serious mistakes in production and he and his "installation crew" knew less than nothing about construction. It was a nightmare for the owner (who "knew everything").

Check the track record of any SIP supplier or contractor.
