I find that sad that you can't enjoy the beautiful spring and only have yukky heat to look forward to. No wonder you're moving! Good show!

I was talking to my auntie in Wellington, Texas a few days ago and I was telling her how wondrous it smelled here in the spring(daphne, hyacinths etc bloomin)and how nice it would be when summer comes and she said spring was not a happy time at all there! Not only oppressive summer heat but spring is the time when dangerous storms start moving in so spring means being nervous.

Sad when a person lives where they can't love the seasons.

Good luck on your move.....LQ

I spent two hours driving thru a blinding blizzard last night to get home. Some spring.

This morning I saw the first bugs of the year flying around.

I well remember dreading the blistering summers in Texas, the bugs, the humidity, the horriffic spring storms, yuch. I'm glad it's only a memory now. Here, the ice is leaving the edges of the lakes, we have quite a bit of bare ground and the sparrows and robins have arrived. Also the hungry chipmunks have returned and are eating us out of house and home. Springtime in the Rockies is a glorious time of year!

Ed, what part of Idaho do you live in? I am south of CDA and we just started hearing the love songs of the frogs around our house this week. They sure can get noisy. But no more snow!!!!

I have discovered a little secret about the summers in SW Missouri. If you spend a lot of time outside and get acclimated to the heat/humidity (and keep yourself well hydrated), you can get to the point where they become tolerable.

Several years ago I read a very interesting story written by an 80+ year old Missouri man who had never had air conditioning in his house, he said that even though he had had an opportunity to have air conditioning put in some time back, he refused because he found that when you get used to air conditioning the summers become unbearable. If you get used to the heat little by little it doesn't bother you as much.

Another great secret is to hose yourself down when you are going to be working outside in the heat! No kidding. I read this on a website http://geocities.com/newlibertyvillage/earthstar.htm (somewhere on there), where they were working outside and were fooling around and had a water fight and it was amazing how much better they felt working in the heat. I have tried this myself and agree 100 percent. I keep a wading pool handy when I am working outside and if I get too hot I take a quick dunk. It is so refreshing and makes you very energetic. :baby04:

I can relate to your desire to move North, but you know that has its drawbacks too in the form of snow and other winter inconveniences. Driving in winter conditions is dangerous!

Maybe we'll be lucky and it will be a long spring this year.

Of course, I am a STORM CHASER, so I kind of do get a little excited when the storm season arrives. I just worry too much about the animals! I have had some near misses from tornadoes these past few years.

We've been here for about 20 yrs and I've yet to acclimitize to the heat. and I spend a lot of time outside in the summer.

As for snow and other inconviences.. Well what can I say i prefer snow and slippry roads to heat and humidity.

Nice day today though. Took our dogs for a walk and enjoyed the scenary and breeze.

I second a long spring

About the only thing I'm not looking forward to is dowsing myself in "fly dope" and scraping the mosquitos off the hen house door in the morning... Last year, if I remember correctly, there was about 2 wks. straight where we just couldn't go outside the bugs were so bad.

And by Jiminy I'm buying an air conditioner!!!!!

Oh, yeah! Give me 95 degrees and high humidity! Sunshine! Go away, cold overcast, dreary winter!

i would be more sympathetic, but i spent the last two summers in Iraq w/ daytime highs of 135-140. when the wind blew it felt like a big blow dryer. ad to that the weight & heat retention of the flak & SAPIs (body armor w/ trauma plates) and kevlar (helmet). you put me in 75 degrees & i want a jacket.

PC, we are having almost 70 degrees here today too!

This has been the best mud season yet. The rain is coming next week, but meanwhile, the frost barrier is probably mostly gone so not too bad! Might be droughty this summer though....

Well, in January we had 90 degree temps, and 15 degree temps before adding the windchill, all durning the same week.

I love Texas. I don't know about being nervous all spring, I like the storms, and we need the rain. I don't get nervous until the air turns green and the softball hail is coming. :-)
yeah, it gets a little warm in the summer. I remember more than a few nights drowning in my own sweat in bed; it being too hot to sleep until the wee hours in the morning, at almost the time to get up and do it all over again. I got used to it as a kid, and now don't mind it so much. In fact it makes me really enjoy the month of October.
