Hello,
My name is Pastor B.P. I pastor the F.B.C. in TN. I have never sent an e-mail like this before in my life. I am writing on behalf of a nine year old boy named J.K. J is a cousin to a dear lady in our church. He lives in Georgia. J has been battling cancer for at least two years now. He has had many ups and downs. His family is exhausted financially and physically. They are hard working people and have insurance through Blue Cross Blue shield of Georgia. J has undergone several surgeries and chemotherapy treatments. He has been so sick for the last two years with all the treatments, yet he and his family continue to trust in the Lord. J's last test held bad news. His counts are going up, indicating that the cancer is growing. Here is what I am asking you to consider:

1. Please pray for this dear family.

2. There is one procedure left that can be done for J. The doctors say it has been successful in some cases like J's. The medicine is very inexpensive, however it must be performed in the hospital and the hospital costs are VERY expensive. The insurance company has refused to pay for the treatment!!!! Can you imagine??? Also, the family contacted the Children's Healthcare of Atanta to see if they would consider allowing the treatment to be performed there free of charge since the insurance will not pay. The Children's Healthcare refused!!!! Now, consider if this were your nine year old child, it was your last chance to save his life and the hospital and insurance company denied you the opportunity to try and save his life!!! I understand these businesses exist to make a profit and I fully support that...but I am talking about a nine year old boy, a mom and dad's little baby, who is dying and might be helped by this treatment. I cannot find an e-mail or phone number for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, but I am asking you to click the link below and Send and a message to The Children's Hospital of Atlanta, requesting they consider providing this treatment for J.K. Please include the following information:

Here is the link that will take you to feedback form for Children's Healthcare in Atlanta. You can enter comments: http://www.choa.org/default.aspx?id=2134

Enter comments similar to this:

Please consider providing for J.K., nine years old cancer patient, the experimental treatment free of charge or at a reduced charge. It is the decent and right thing to do.

Please be kind and considerate in your comments, but be sure to include J's name and age.

3. Please Forward this to everyone you know.

Through your effort, you may give a family a little more hope!
Thanks so much for your consideration and e-mail me with any questions,
Pastor B.P.

i know it says to include his name, but i don't feel comfortable giving out his name. just include as much info as you can from this letter. if you don't want to email them that is fine. i understand. just keep this family in your hearts and prayers is all that i am asking for. like i say, they are not asking for money. maybe someone out there has the miricle it will take for this family!
thanks again

ejsmomma,

I'm very sorry to hear about this. I'm not feeling very successful in my prayin' these days, but I can offer this as one who has some experience in the field: Insurance companies frequently deny the more expensive cancer treatments on grounds that they are excluded from coverage under the policy's exclusion for "experimental" or "investigative" procedures. In many instances, the patient's physicians disagree that the treatment is experimental.

As a practical matter, the insurance company usually gets its way unless an attorney intervenes and gets the matter before a judge. (This can be done on a very expedited basis, through a motion for injunction.)

The law does not allow an insurance company unilateral discretion in interpreting the terms of its policy. In many states, if there is ANY ambiguity in the language of a policy exclusion, it is interpreted in favor of the insured. And ultimately, the determination whether a particular procedure is covered is decided on the medical and scientific evidence, meaning that if the patient's docs are willing to go to bat on the matter, there's a good chance of success.

If I were in your family's shoes, I would find out whether J's doctors think the treatment is "experimental" or "investigational" at this point in time, and if not, I'd call every good high-end personal injury attorney in town and see if there's somebody willing to take the case on.

My thoughts are with you, as are my prayers (if anybody's listening). . .

Renae,I'll gladly pray and send an email...but will they know which child we're emailing about if we don't use his name? Also, that link says that it is for medical questions. I'll send a written letter,if you think that would be better?

Let me know

Sorry about the suffering of this child. I can certainly pray. However...why don't they take him to St Jude's in Memphis and get his treatments for free?
Just wondering........I imagine, I would get him there even if I had to borrow money for gas and drive him there myself....
