Yeah, i'm on intuits (turbo tax) yearly program. they automatically send it to me. been using their product for about 15 or so years. i have to do farm, c corp and state tax for two states. its nice to automatically carry information from one year to another without having to reenter it. tracks about 20 pieces of equipment for depreciation for me.

Me too...turbo tax annually delivered. Though i must admit back in 1997 i made a horrid mistake (cost me 10 grand) using turbo tax and i never did discover if it was all me or partly the program. i still use it though i just check it over really good now!

We've used TaxAct for the last five years and have never had a problem with it. You can do online or paper returns and the program allows you to do more than one person's taxes (we do all our adult childrens).

They send an email reminder every year - the program is downloadable and you can get a head start on the year (I've had the new review copy for several months).

Hi SIsterpine,

yeah, when you are not an accountant, its kinda scarry to dump all your numbers in and watch the figures fall out. i have to admit that i used procrastinate after finishing my taxes. i was afraid to send them in without having a cpa check them...now i am VERY careful about how i answer turbo tax questions. and use the automatic audit check several times.

what a depressing subject.

I received TaxCut in the mail - free - this year. I guess they're hoping that I will buy their State version for 24.95. Since I just bought a house this year, I will be itemizing and will probably use the program. Might also just purchase the state program, but I can probably just download the Montana state forms and go with that.

....................Thanks for the info . I just downloaded their 2005 , tenative version and plugged in my numbers for '05 even though I won't have my w-2's for 3 or 4 weeks . Their format for personal data entry is very user friendly I must say . For $12.95 you can't beat the proice and I'll beable to file electronically when I get ready . thanks , again , fordy...

Hi~

for the past 4-5 years, We have used a free online tax prep service that you input your numbers and it walks you through even itemization....it is like "doing your taxes for dummies" it is sooooooo user friendly!

If you dont qualify for free them you can still use it but there is a small fee....I think like $20 for state (we qual for Fed but not state so I used it to do my state but then copied it onto a printed state form...)

Here is the statement from that website

No problem, Fordy.

We do fed and state - all electronically. Had our money in the bank from both last year within two weeks of filing.

And yes, it is neat that you can imput everything ahead of time. Just don't forget to double check the numbers against your W-2's before you hit send.

before everyone starts expending all the time, effort, trouble and MONEY ..

... perhaps y'all would like to make sure your income actually has liability for the federal income tax?

i mean .. if you truly ENJOY buying and working with all these programs, and sending in your money at the end ... by all means .. GO AHEAD! if not, the following sites may demonstrate to you that your income, like 99.9% of most americans, is NOT liable.

please note that some of the sites may have changed or been discontinued.

ok, but, i can tell you first hand, the great gears of the IRS machine grind exceedingly slow, but exceedingly fine.

Wink

I have used www.online-taxes.com for 3 years now. It's free and VERY easy to use. I really like it. You might want to check it out.
