Talking Finally got it!!!

My gal and I finally bought our land. 20 acres, fully wooded!!

We'll probably start clearing for our cabin, workshop, etc..... next week. I'm looking forward to all the hard work that lays ahead. We've been planning and learning for the last 1 1/2 years. From felling trees, to wood stove cooking, to raising animals; we can't wait!!!!

I introduced my gal to this site last week and she's been in her glory, gathering information (as I have been) that you folks graciously offer. Thank you all!!!!

Congratulations! Don't forget to get soil survey info on it.... if you don't want the whole book (usually free!), just see if you can get a xerox of the relevant pages. Some county libraries carry them, if not, contact your local Soil Conservation Service or Ag Extension offices.... they'll have copies or know where you can get them.

The soil survey doesn't just say what your soil types & profiles are, it'll also say what they can be used for (construction suitabilities and pitfalls for each soil type, types of trees or crops that do best on them, etc).

Congratulations! Where in the world in TN did you find 20 acres. We have been hunting for 6 or 8 month's in this area. So far the "farms" either aren't for sale, too expensive, or they are breaking the good land up into 1/2 acre plots for mobile home parks!

You can still find farms intact with ravines, crevaces and bluffs, that the fairies, gnomes and unicorns hide under in the mist. But we want horse land. Not horse killer hills.

I'm dancing for you. Sounds wonderful. We are trying to get our 20 acres this month. Still needing electricity.

Thank you, all!!

The land we have was purchased from a gentleman who owns quite a few acres waaayyyy out behind the middle of nowhere. The land slopes north and south and the crest of the hill is wide enough and long enough to build on. We just like the solitude. (albeit, it'll be tough to get things delivered)
A road is on the list of areas to be cleared.
