Anybody close to me want to get in the Boer goat business?

Here's a goat farm that is having a auction. Looks like they have a lot of good quality animals and tools. Check it out if you live in this area.

I was wondering .... If goats are such a great business, why are their so many goat farms going out of business?

That's what I wonder papaw. I've messed around with a few but I just don't see the money in them when you figure all the vet and feed bills with them. The best I've done is buy a few weening aged kids in the early spring, feed them on brush only throughout the spring/summer/fall, and then sell them off in late fall. I've doubled my money doing that with them.

I think the boer goat is kind of like the emu used to be. I can't believe the prices their getting for breeding stock. I even saw a castrated billy go for $2000. For the life of me, I can't figure out why someone would pay that amount for an animal that does nothing.

I raise brush goats that I bought for $25-50 a piece. They breed every year and I keep the females and sell the males for $30-50 at the sale barn. I haven't made millions yet, but I'm not losing either.
