Info on Amish in Bogard, MO?
I'm looking for basic info on an Amish community in Bogard, MO--population size, how long they've been there, any negative or positive feelings about them in the community.... I need it for a project I'm doing for a good cause.
I only did a basic google search so far and didn't come up with much--but I thought there might be someone with first-hand knowledge here. I know Bogard is pretty close to Jamesport, MO, which is the most established Amish community in MO. Anyone know if those communities are related? If you know of any resources I could look at, that would be great too.
Thanks!

Similar communities in Canada sometimes give free tours of their operation. If they do (there will be a sign out front) why not chat them up?

Thanks mountainman, I'm not close enough to look at signs, but I will try to get in touch with a local chamber of commerce and find out if they have any information that would be helpful. I appreciate the idea.
Barb, I'm sorry, but it wouldn't be ethical for me to give details--I'm just trying to help out an individual who has a connection to that community, on something which may help the community but will probably have no effect on it and certainly won't cause anyone any problems. I'll share my own info over the internet, but I'm not comfortable sharing someone else's who hasn't specifically given their permission. I'm not asking for any private details, either--just if someone has any familiarity with the history of the community or knows where I might find a public record of the information. I'm still looking on my own in the meanwhile, of course. If anyone knows of anything that would make my search easier, I'd be happy to hear of it. If not, I'm sure I'll find it on my own eventually
Thank you.

Amish, Amish and more Amish.
Do you want info about them in general or just about this community?, I worship with Menonites for many years, been a baptist they were close to my believes in this part of PA. So I know a lot about Amish, and Old order Menonites (similar). But I don't know what are you looking for. I hope you are not involve romantically with this person. But if you do, I hope you have a very strong faith in the Lord, and really love him or her (sorry don't remember your sex). Because this Amish person is going to be shunt from his her family as soon they know your relationship and this is permanent. Let me know what you really are looking for, if is in Amish in general I can help, if is in that specific community. I can't

I am gong to tell you now so you wont spent your time, population size good luck they don't keep registers, and their last name practically comes down to 6 different last names, so if you are looking for Issac Yoder, you also need to know his father's name and problably their occupation. Lest assume for a minute you are looking for Issac and you stop this young guy in front of the Ice crea parlor.
you- excuseme sir do you know were is the house of Issac Yoder?
Guy_ Issac Yoder, the son of Abraham the dairy farmer of the son of Melliach the carpernter or the son of Issac the horse healer?
my point is almost impossible to know how many of them are around.
THe feeling of the community I dear to say are mix. They could be great people but at the same time they are business people and my experience is they lie to you to sell whatever they are selling, of course you can't generalize, some of them are really Christian and they have high ethical standards. But not all of them are Christian.
I know one who sold an old horse (12 years old) gave shots of prednison in the horse joints and make the horse to look younger.
One lady tried to sell peach pies ( the best in the country) to me, I cant eat Lard and she lied to me about it.
Usually when one community is close to another they are rellated, and one branched out of the other, Usually because a fight over land ownership. Well good luck to you.
Be careful they are not naive.

No, no, nothing like that, thankfully. This is more in the nature of a research project, very impersonal. I am looking for basic information on the Bogard, MO area Amish specifically, but thank you for the offer of more general help. Thanks also for letting me know that they probably don't keep very many written records--I'm hoping maybe the local government or the census might have some rough guesses as to their population size, etc. I don't need really detailed information, just the general idea. I found several sources that say that the Jamesport Amish are the largest in MO, with about 120 households and that they are one of the oldest existing groups, settled in 1953. Jamesport is about 50 miles from Bogard, though, so I don't know how related the communities would be...
Your Issac Yoder story was funny, and true, I'm sure.

If you have any Amish communities near you, the best thing to do is visit their Minister and/or Bishop for information. Amish do a lot of letter writing and have their own newspapers to keep in touch with each other. You won't find any detailed information about this Amish community in the "English" world.

Thanks, deb, that's a great idea. There are some Amish families around here, and I don't know them very well personally, but I have some friends who do and might be able to point me in the direction of a knowledgable Minister. I didn't think of that, but it makes a lot of sense.
Thanks!
