Yes, they need to be appoved by the postmaster general, at least that is what mine says!

My grandpa put his mailbox on a uncle sam wooden cut-out on both sides, so it appears uncle sam is holding your mailbox!

Most of "custom" mailboxes around I've seen are just a decorative shell built around a standard plain jane box. That tends to satisfy everybody since the actual mailbox is still an 'approved' one and yet from outside it looks much more decorative.

Okay, now... How do you make a dado without a router

Thanks for the great mailbox plans. Now I wanted to know if there was any way of making a 1/8" dado, 3/16" deep in a board 6" wide, without using a router (which I do not own.) Can I make it with handtools? Any ideas?

Help!

Dado's are cut with saw blades preferable a table saw but you can if your steady cut them with a hand saw and a guide edge.
