Am looking for a dry cat food with no wheat in it.

Roger told me to ask here as there is so much knowledge here.

I have a cat who seems allergic to wheat as he projectile vomits when he eats it quite often. We had him on a canned cat food that has no wheat in it but he really didn't like it (strange cat) and lost a lot of weight. That wasn't a bad thing as he was rather rotund.

But, he had a bad kidney infection and lost a bunch of weight and needed to put some back on. He has been eating a dry cat food again but he is starting to barf again too and that can't be good for him.

Does anyone know of a dry catfood that has no grains in...most importantly no wheat. I think that he could tolerate rice.

try this:
http://www.solidgoldhealth.com/produ...?id=4&code=130

We feed our dog one of their foods when we aren't doing the raw food thing...good quality but is a bit spendy.
Good luck with your kitty!

nutroproducts.com and wysong.net

I didn't read the ingredient lists but I know these are two of the best dry cat foods on the market and most probably they don't contain wheat fillers.

www.animalworldnetwork.com/catsfood.html

and

www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=home-tab

Look for site tools and click on Compare foods.
You can pick several and it will do a comparison for you.

cat food

If I remember correctly, Drs Foster and Smith sell wheat free cat and dog food. They are out of Rhinelander, Wi. You might want to check them out. They have a website.

Royal Canin (used to be IVD) has pet foods developed with novel proteins to treat animals with allergies. If I remember correctly for cats they have Duck and potato and venison and potato. The idea is to give them foods that they have not been exposed to so they haven't developed an allergy to it. If you think your cat is sensitive to wheat it may be a good choice. There may be other hypoallergenic products out there as well, but that was the one the clinic I worked in sold, so that's the one I'm familiar with.
I think Eukanuba has one that is kangaroo meat based. (Just found it online...its Response KO---Kangaroo and Oats)

Opps...........looks like the response KO is K-9 only. Anyway, look for foods that say hypoallergenic and then look at the labels and see if they have wheat. Corn is another biggy as far as food allergies go. Look for carb sources from potato, rice, etc.

I feed my cats Blue Spa Select by the Blue Buffalo Company. I buy it at Petsmart.

It has chicken, brown rice, barley, oatmeal, menhaden fish meal, cranberries, sweet potatoes, eggs, and carrots in it. No wheat listed.

We tried the Solid Gold Katz n' Flocken that was mentioned above, but our cats didn't like it.

Innova Evo is a wheat free dry cat food. You can order it from www.epetpals.com (I've ordered from them). It IS expensive, though.

good luck

Iams makes different "flavors" so I'd check out their website. Eukanaba is another I see advertised but I'm not sure of the ingredients. Science Diet has a plethora of foods based on health issues of pets but again, not sure of the ingredients.

It could be a wheat or corn allergy. Here's the one we used-it was both wheat & corn free.

Recently I stopped at the newest business here in town in order to support it and found they didn't carry my usual brand of cat food. I bought one the woman said was "better" and my cats like it alot. I just checked the ingredients again and the only grains I could find listed were rice and flaxseed. It's called "Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul" (kinda catchy don't you think?) It was less than I usually pay for the same size bag-and I didn't have to drive 30 miles for it! Hope you find something that works. betty
