Pictures

I had the instructions for posting pictures on threads, but they seem to have gone away. It looks like many folks don't know how to post pictures .... so ... could some of you that do have this knowledge please share it in a step by step way?
Thanks

Posting pics

Papaw, this is how I do it!

You'll need to host your pics on a site. I use Imageshack. http://imageshack.us/

Just browse through your files and download the pics using imageshack into the imageshack files.
You'll chose the pic, it will come up as an address and below it is another button that says Host it.
Click it and it will host your pic.

Now once you've got it hosted you'll get a few addresses in different windows-choose the option for forums(I think it's the first one for forums).
Cut it into your mouse and come over here and pastes it into a thread and preview it.
If it's correct your pic will come up as a thumbnail that can be enlarged by clicking on it.
If it doesn't come up, go back and choose the other address(option 2 I think).
With a little luck, you'll now be on your way to showing us daily pics of your life and homestead!

Here's a sample of what I just explained.
thumbnail option 1 for forums:

Thanks Kathy,
I read so many posts by people who say they don't know how to post a picture. It is nice to see what they're talking about ... goats, tractors, fences ...whatever ....
maybe some will look at this thread and see how it's done.
Thanks again ...

Mich farmer. That picture is really to big. If you have Photoshop or a similar program you should reduce it to about 60 K or less. Once you post a picture to a host site you can use the following code to post a picture on this or most other web sites:
<img src="http://________.jpg" Fill in the blank with the address of your hosting site and name of your picture at the hosting site.

Michiganfarmer- When I saw your small picture, I thought it was two large pigs shoved in some kind of boxes, lol. I just had to click on the picture to get a better view on how you process pigs.

I don't wear glasses, but maybe it's time to go have my eyes checked, lol.

Nikon 8700, 8 MP

Thanks. Got lucky.

Camera is a 8700 Nikon, 8MP. The screen image you can see in my post is a small part of what is available. Or, in other words, you could have a picture printed 6 times bigger than this screen image, and would still be clear. You can have big clear pictures, or, you can zoom in on a small area and make a clear screen-size picture. It's the 8MP that makes that happen.

I am thinking about another Nikon, D50 or D70, only 6 MP, but you can put other lens on and don't have to use adapters for telephoto or wider angle. Adapters reduce the quality, and lens don't.

But I have to give up the adjustable viewer on the 8700 (which is a live video feed), which I love. You can hold the camera up and point the tilt viewing screen down so you can see. Or, hold the camera down and look into the swivel viewing screen just like those old-time box cameras; I love that feature.

But, with an SLR (the new D50 and D70 which I am thinking about) I can't have the tilt viewing (because it dosen't have the live feed, only a view AFTER you take the picture).

So it is hard for me to change. I think I have come to the conclusion that one day I will NEED two cameras, both the 8700, and the D70.

Have fun.

Alex

BTW This is what I mean by take a part of the other image, even though this is not as interesting as the other image, with all the contrast,

Close up of a part of other image.

Humbly I offer these comments. I am not a photographer. I know others know much more, and I bow to them.
