Back Trail

A question for you deer hunters.
Had a doe cut my back trail - I wore rubber knee boots and the grass was only ankle high - while bow hunting the other day.
The doe stopped; checked out the scent trail;did a 180; snorting and blowing; and left the way she came while trying to find the source of the scent trail - me. She never did see me and could not scent me as there was no wind at the time.
Have any experience or ideas on how to minimize this?
Thanks in advance.

Now that's exciting. Deer are good teachers....and are also also very frustrating at times. I have had deer follow my trail, especially in snow, right up to the tree that I was in....when my back was to the deer. I learned to keep on eye on the back trail from the stand.

Try walking a loop back to your sitting or stand location 15 to 20 yards downwind of your trail.

Have fun. Good luck.

She obviously did scent you. Probably the rubber boots.

If a deer c0mes across your trail they are going to smell you period. There is nothing you can really do about that to completely eliminate your odor. You can eliminate alot of odor but not all of it. I know a guy who wears a dive suit under his camo and swears it works but I still choot more than he does. Keeping your clothing in a bag with leaves dirt etc and never washing them in detergent will help. But nothing will work as good as making sure that you are always downwind of your prey. If you use those boots around the farm that could be the issue. If the deer arent used to smelling hog sh** and you walk out in the woods with boots on that have been in the hog pen its the same as you taking a dump out there. ETCETC

I collect fresh deer droppings and mix with water in a bucket. Fill a spray bottle with the liquid and use to spray your boots. Soak a rag in it and hang it near your stand.
I always carry a zip lock baggie and a spoon in my pack to collect deer scent after a snowfall. Make mock scrapes, etc. If ya don't use it, put it in the freezer til ya need it.
