Be careful what you wish for...

I'm kind of laughing at my wife..

So the whole reason we ended up with our place in WV is because my wife said she wanted to move to WV and grow chickens....

We got the place... No chickens yet... until we move there...

BUT, the neighbor recently got some chickens.. and a rooster..

So we're sitting out at 4:30 in the morning watching the pig roast over the fire, and the rooster is going to town... My wife said she didn't remember the neighbors chickens being so loud when she was a kid.. I said they probably didn't have a rooster.. BUT, chickens can crow too, and she has heard a friends chickens crow..

She said she's rethinking the chickens.. LOL....

I know we'll have them anyway...

I don't even really notice our roosters crowing anymore.
As long as they aren't up against the house and I'm trying to sleep

Well.. I think having an incredibly loud Macaw isn't helping matters either.. I know she's tired of him screaming, and figures any more birds doing the same isn't such a joyful thought.. LOL..

You get use to it and wont notice it anymore.

A noisy fan or a sound machine will provide nice white noise

Yep... I told her she would get used to it.. I know she likes farm fresh eggs too much not to get used to it... I think too once she has them following her around the yard and entertaining her, she'll get past the noise..

Just don't get any roosters. Very, very seldom a hen will crow. I have found that IF a hen does crow, it doesn't resonate like a rooster's crow does.

Well ya gotta have a rooster if you ever want enough chicks so you can throw some in a stew pot.. plus, hens lay better if a rooster is around..

How much do macaws mimic? It might start crowing soon.

You get used to roosters crowing, it soon fades into the background.

Actually, Macaws aren't a mimicker.. they actually do talk.. They do change words around and do form two and three word sentences.. if you want to call it a sentence.. They can also be trained to recognize colors and shapes and speak them..

Will be interesting to see if he does start crowing.. LOL. .that would be funny..

I know of a bird that's even worse than a rooster, and that's a mockingbird! I've had them wake me up in the middle of the night while they sing their little heart out.

It would only be funny the first couple of times. After that it would probably get on your last nerve. Friend of mine had an African Grey and he was constantly making the microwave ding sound, the phone ringing sound, the whistle for the dogs, coughing like one of the family members, etc. He could talk, too, but he preferred to mimic the other noises he was exposed to. I couldn't focus on a conversation or tv program in the same room as that bird!

My phone rings.. the bird says Hello.. I put on my coat, or grab my keys, he says bye bye.... He does keep us entertained...

I'd LOVE to get a couple of peacocks... but I know the noise from them would really set my wife off.. Beautiful cool birds, but they make a heck of a lot of noise, and I don't think they would pay for their keep in eggs.. but I bet I could pay for their keep with feathers.. maybe.. but bet a lot are already for sale on Etsy..

Farmers market...
And I like their noise - a lot more than a rooster

The farm across the way from us has peacocks. We really only hear them in the spring when the little ones are growing up. I think it is the adults warning other birds off. I kind of like the sound too.

I was visiting a friend once. If I hadn't known her neighbors had peacocks, I would have been calling 911. It sounded like there was someone in the woods yelling for help.
